Issues with States Right to Service Act

With this post we want to seek your inputs on the issues with "Right to Service Acts" followed by different states in India.

Some states do not have it, some don't implement it, some make it cumbersome for citizens to use and in some cases the delay penalty money for citizen is far lower than the cost involved to pursue it and hence a disincentive.

We want to hear all the issues with the "Right to Service acts" Also, if your state's act is working well, do share those details as well.

We look forward to your inputs! more

My personal opinion stop blaming the British, the Indian culture, the weather, the govt and everyone else but ourselves. The British left 70 yrs ago what is stopping us from not being corrupt? We are by our very nature a corrupt bunch of people. Blaming everyone and everything else some how is an excuse to not change. WE are to blame - no one else. Change is important and a movement has to be built up to make RSI effective. No Govt - state or center in my knowledge is open to this or is implementing it. There is just some lip service done. more

The so many comments on the Service Act by LC Members is the expression of big disgust of the people of India, and I add myself to the list. Why the Service Act was enacted initially? Who enacted it? People in the Opposition to the Right to Information Act just came up with the Right to Service Act, but to no purpose. The conditions on the implementation of RSA (Right to Service Act) is the same - Oppose - in all the States and at the Centre. In fact there was no need of the RSA, when RTI is there. My suggestion is to propagate the RTI and implement in its totality. more
Whatever acts we pass unless money is paid services will not be made available. Unless a movement starts from the Public the corruption cannot be rooted out so easily. To keep their stranglehold the British rulers have corrupted out system. We should also change the structure of administration from British model to Indian model to reduce corruption. more
No use in just enacting laws. Who is to monitor the action taken on complaints for services not rendered? Corrupt government servants will always find loopholes (such as telling you that the information given is incomplete) and make you run around. The website of each state should provide information on the service delivery time, failures, complaints and action taken so that nothing is hidden from the public. Each government office should display a list of services rendered, time limit and to whom complaints should be made in the event of non performance. In a country which lacks transparency these things are bound to happen. Let the government provide the facility to initiate any type of service request through a web portal. It can make monitoring easy and accountability can be established. I would suggest the passport issue/renewal procedures now being followed through passport office website be replicated by each and every department. Wherever possible subcontract simple work (like the Passport service kendras in metros). more
