High courts are working for only for 5 hours a day from 10.30 to 4.30 with 1 hour lunch for 5 days a week with Sat and Sun as holidays. They also go on month long vacation in addition to casual leave, privilege leave and medical leave etc. As the effective working hours have been reduced to the barest minimum, several crores of cases are pending with courts. To clear any pending work, even IAS officers sit late and finish the work and they even attend office on Sundays and holidays to finish urgent work. And no file will be kept pending with any IAS officer for more than three months. Our beloved PM works for 15 hours a day with no holidays. The Hon. Supreme Court have woken up at 3 am to hear an urgent hearing recently. Why cannot the High courts work for longer hours and cancel the annual vacation in the interest of clearing the mounting arrears of cases and restore public confidence in Judiciary?? It is worth paying the Judges double the salary for clearing the arrears rather than increasing the pay of the MPs and MLAs. A white paper should be presented to the Law Minister in this regard. more
