Law and Order upgrade for 24X7 open retail model

Recently you had given your inputs on 24X7 open retail, the pros, cons and implementation considerations. Your inputs and poll feedback has been widely covered in print and digital media (one of the articles below in Economic Times). The key area which needs to be upgraded before this can be enabled is the city law and order infrastructure. With this post we would like to seek your very specific inputs on what needs to be done to upgrade city law/order and how exactly so a model can be developed.

Below are also your original inputs on the pros, cons and implementation aspects of 24X7 open retail for easy reference.

We look forward to your inputs!

Keeping retail establishments Open 24X7 -Citizen Inputs

Pros
1.This will create more jobs
2.It will also improve the market sentiments
3.The decision will boost up the revenues of these businesses
4.It will create more tax revenue for the state Government
5.Will make it more convenient/flexibility for the working class
6.It will reduce the market crowd from the rush hours
7.This will also reduce traffic burden in Metros, as people will prefer the night time which would be with lesser traffic
8. Establishments will be able to generate more revenue
9.Monopoly of certain business will end

Cons
1.There will be more late night security concerns for the people working at the establishments
2.Law and order in general might take a beating since there will be more people on roads at nights
3.This is a model law by the centre and the state implementation will be on a case by case basis
4.This will create some level of inequality as the law says that the establishment needs to have at least 10 employees to be able to be open 24x7
5.The states might not be able to meet the 24x7 energy/electricity demand from the establishments
6.There will never be enough public transportation for people to travel within the city at nights
7.24*7 opening of some establishments might cause more nuisance to public than convenience

Implementation

1. All the establishment open 24x7 should be brought under strict electronic surveillance
2.The states should work closely with the centre to make sure that no loopholes are left during implementation
3.The state police will have to swing into action to guarantee security during night hours
4.There will be a need to put a minimum timeline check for employees to avoid draining of employees and good service levels
5.Establishments should be asked to mandatorily provide safe transport for ladies who are reporting to or leaving work between 8pm to 7am
6. The condition of minimum 10 employees should be either on business rolls or on contract through third parties
7.Noiseless electric generators should be compulsory so that in case of no electricity, no untoward activities can happen. more

I do not remember if I had voted on this issue, but would like to emphatically say that round the clock operations for shops and eateries etc. is injurious to health. God made day to work and night to rest.Almost every one if required to work in night and rest during day is not comfortable. However where for serious economic considerations where round the clock work is unavoidable it has to be accepted though with a grudge. Where night shift is unavoidable it should be of shorter duration than day shift. In fact in Mumbai all the industries working night shift were operating for 7 hours or less in night shift. RYK. To support this police force should be tripled to maintain law and order before executing 24x 7 let appoint force to maintain law and order and it also gives security to night shift work more
Bad idea to keep open 24/7. will lead to more tensions, more crime, more sickness and psychological disorders due to insufficient and restful sleep, present infrastructure cannot support and provide 24/7 power, policing, transport. Main thing is it will not help the poor and BPL population. The rich will get richer by exploiting their employees and workers. All in all a lunatic idea thought up by a bunch of I dont know who ! more
all the corner shops should be able to keep open their shops 24X7 like the Biggies. certain municipalities forces shops to close by 9 pm. On Tue, Aug 16, 2016 at 1:26 PM, LocalCircles Manager < support@localcirclesmail.com> wrote: > more
