Laws contradicting society norms must be made clarified

The situation when laws contradicting society norms arise is indeed very painful and frustrating. The laws in these situations must be made clear to public by large scale publicity. For example, A person having only daughter dies and his last wish is that he be cremated (dead body given fire) by his daughter only. The whole society opposes where as I think no law clarifies whether this is right or wrong. This leaves daughter in pain and frustration and may be the soul of the father too. Infact there are several things which are contradicting society norms which some are for good but some are really not helpful as in the above mentioned situation. Why this is important is every small thing matters in the development of society and when the people are aware of their rights, the conflicts reduce and the person will be at peace which leads to more innovative ideas and creativity leading to a better society. more

I agree Mr. Bhatia more
it is a religious matter. govt cant make any rule. Still there is no binding more
These are all rituals which may vary from place to place and from community to community. But there is no harm if the daughter lits the fire. As per supreme court norms both the son and the daughter have equal rights. However, I feel that there should be uniform civil code throughout the country starting Kashmir to Kanyakumari. more
There is no scripture in Hindu religion which forbids the daughter from cremating any person related to her. The malpractice was started perhaps by corrupt pundits to create a way for increasing their hold on hapless victims and extracting money from them. I completely agree with Ms. Gita Devi and second her act of performing the last rites of her dear mother. The same instance happened in our family as well where my cousin sister performed the last rites of her father and there was no objection from the pundits or anyone in the society. It is just a matter of breaking from the shackles of these misinformed psychotic pundits which corrupted a pure and sublime Hindu religion. more
You are right. We need correct education in every sphere, and move into the twenty first century, NEVER frorgetting the many wonderful Social norms practised by our forefathers . When our Mother passed away, I told panditji that both my sister and I along with our brother would partake fully in the ritual of her cremation.Panditji made no objection. We partook of her cremation rites, together and went together to commit her ashes to the sacred Ganga, upstream, where it was clean, clear, peaceful....and NOT in Hardwar nor Varanasi, where the river is fouled and the place over-run by greedy pujaris....but it takes courage to break away. Many young women and girls have shown the way by refusing to marry a man who had dowry demands, walking out of the wedding pandal on that vey occasion. But you ar right, correct education will enlighten the mind and show the way forward. With a New Age dawning, I have every hope traditions which were cruel unjust and backward will steadily evaporate.Gita Devi more
