Our household throws 50% of meds we buy.
Return must be mandated. Who knows when packaging will change and each tablet will have expiry date.
Anyways this consumer ministry is all talk and no action so better to have an order from the Govt on chemists where they are mandated to accept good condition medicine within 30 days of sale. more

Medicines with undamaged wrappers are generally taken back by the chemists from whom one purchases those medicines. more

We return unused medicines within 30 days of purchase and our chemist accepts them. We give away excess over-the-counter medicines for others' use too. more

There are a no. of Charitable Dispensaries/hospitals, who gladly accepts such medicines. I was intending myself to associate with such an organisation. Difficulties encountered are : (1) people depositing medicines of expired life, (2) name of the medicine is illegible - tablets had been taken out from the place where the nomenclature and/or potency was printed,(3) manufacturer's name/ address illegible. more

The place where leftover medicines could be deposited as suggested by Mr. Joshi should be under the supervision of a trained and honest pharmacist. Such centres could function only in big cities. more

In Mumbai they sell medicines by strips only and there is a lot of unused medicines in every house. There is no way to return a strip even if only one tablet is used. The government both at state level and local bodies should come down heavily on this and the patient should be able to buy the number of tablets he requires more
