Accidents at unmanned railway crossings are common and a few months ago, you had shared the following inputs to address this matter. Kindly review them and if you have any additional inputs, please share esp in light of role the local community can play to address this.
Minimizing Accidents at Unmanned Railway Crossings
1.Through mass media/awareness creation campaigns, it should be communicated that trains have right of way on the rail tracks
2.Unmanned crossings should be made automatic with the help of sensors
3.Alternatives by-ways of over bridge or subway should be made available for commuters
4.Somekind of alarm should be sounded when the train is approaching
5.Warning boards with pictures and street lights should be installed at all such crossings
6.Speed breakers should be built on either side of the railway crossing
7.Local Police, NGOs and Local Community should be roped in to educate people about the precautions while crossing unmanned crossings
8.Media should also be used to generate awareness, especially in rural areas
9.It should be made mandatory for the trains to blow horn before an unmanned crossing
10.Till the awareness campaigns are effective, local police should fine violators to drive compliance
11.Hoardings should be put of accident scenes as a deterrent
12.Visibility around the unmanned crossings should be increased and bushes, trees etc. should be removed
13.Electronic display boards should be installed which show the approximate distance of the approaching train more

Fixing of a remote alarm can be worked out. It should give horn to both sides when the train reaches one kilometre away from the unmanned railway cross. more

To creat safety awareness among the near by village's/both side of crossing village through display board and explain about National loss of Human & property. more

There are many unmanned railway crossing, mostly in villages . I believe the local panchayat, municipality should work together with Railways to solve this issue. The local bodies should submit their proposal to Railways for construction of manned crossing, and Railways can delegate the construction work to local bodies ; and there after the Railways will take care of maintenance. In Towns, where the traffic is more Construction of over bridges will be the best solution to minimise accidents. Reason No.1 -Traffic will not come to a halt due to passing of trains. Reason No.2- People will always use over bridge , day & night & this will avert accident. Railway lines should be guarded will iron bars (both side) so that people cannot cross from underneath. This panchayat-municipality-Railway joint approach will facilitate the completion of work in a very short period of time. I request Hon'ble Minister Mr.Prabhu to allocate fund in next budget for conversion of all unmanned railway crossing into manned crossing. This step will reduce Railway accident and save thousands of lives. If members have any other views , please share. After all ,human lives are precious. more

All the suggestions are unreasonable and unrealistic. Crossings must be manned itbwill also generate employment more
