Misleading Advertisements - Action Needed from Govt

Many of you are aware that LocalCircles took upon the fight against misleading advertisement in 2015 and several of you have reported misleading, inappropriate, surrogate ads over these years. Two years ago, the Government brought out a draft advertising code but is yet to issue the final code. Meanwhile many of you have continued to raise the issue of misleading ads on tv, print, digital and other forms of media. And special thanks to all those who participated in the survey on the subject sharing pandemic experiences:

Misleading Advertisements - Consumer Pulse during pandemic

Many people during the pandemic fell for misleading ads for ayurvedic products, nutraceuticals, etc under the garb of immunity boost claimed by advertisers. Do share the link above with friends, family on whatsapp, social media so they steer clear of such ads. Meanwhile we will escalate the urgent need to issue the final advertising code and start enforcing it. more

Excellent work on surrogate advertising more
As Sri. Gajendra Katiyar commented, certain amount of responsibility must rest with people who view the ads and succumb to glamor and glitz. If the demand drops for the products/services advertised, the problem will be resolved. more
People please stop pushing government control on everything. This could be achieved by public service announcements. We do not live in USSR or communist China. Free nations do not ask government to spend our money, that is tax money on more government employees to do such nonsensical work. more
Unless any kind of misleading, inappropriate, surrogate etc.) advertisements through any kind of media is made an act of criminal offence and the advertisers as well as the media concerned (digital, print, tv and/or any other sources) are equally made responsible and stringent punishment is provided for, the trend would continue unabated. more
The govt frames rules for escape and not punishment. They have still notified the advertising rules. more
