MRP

I recently purchased a branded invertor. The MRP was INR 10000.00 but was given to me by a reputed stockist for INR 4100 including GST.
I have two queries:
1. Why have a MRP of INR 10000.00 and then sell it at INR 4100.00. Would it not be better to reduce the MRP and make the product competitive and affordable.
2.Does the Govt lose on GST at any level by this.? more

Yes a seller may sell at a loss if he needs cash urgently more
The GST charged is to be paid next month for the previous month. But in the case of small business persons having turnover of say rs 50 to 60 laks the money for sales is received only after three or four months and hence the GST law should be amended to facilitate payments only after receipt in the case of persons having turnover up to say rs 2 crores and professionals up to say rs 50 laks. This step will improve the working strength of SMEs more
Did they give Valid bill? Does the seller has GST number? more
There are no guidelines on how a MRP is fixed for a product. This leads to the manufacturer printing a very high MRP on its product but sell the product to its dealers/stockists at very low prices. It is poor customer who does not bargain or knows the real value of the product ends up paying the cost at MRP. This is a very clear malpractice that has been going on without any let or hindrance. There should be some way to put an end to this. more
I am a firm believer in free-market, without any government hindrance. Except in cases where a product or service is critically needed, we should allow prices to be determine whatever the market bears. more
Now a days a lot of market gimmics are there.MRP is being fixed by the whims and fancy of the company.Otherwise how a product having MRP of 10000/- can be sold in 4100.Many a times buy one get one free.It means a product of Rs 100/- can be sold in Rs 50/-.How much is the margin of profit one can have. This is all looting tactics and nothing else.Concerned authority must look in to it. more
