Need of the hour - Increase Tax Base

LocalCircles survey is as accurate as it gets and the Govt needs to really wake up and stop milking citizens and businesses on petrol and diesel.

Increasing tax base is the solution. Go to any construction and hardware store, kirana shops, small shops you will never get a receipt. All cash. The income is not taxed. No GST no IT. And remember they are not poor.

Can we pressurise Government to act? more

What is the real mechanism of GST ? Is not the GST concept is to limitise the taxing process and points ? If it is yes, then the price of a product arrived at must be including the GST as per the stipulated rates and paid by the manufacturers. Once it is done, the middle men prior to reaching the products to the consumers, i.e. distributors/agencies, whole sellers, retailers etc. should be free from the responsibilities of collecting and paying the GST to the government because all of them are getting their supplies at prices including GST already paid by the manufacturers. As such, non-issuance of receipt may not result in tax evasion. However, I am a novice in the matter and may have slipped certain important points in the matter! more
There are two issues here. One is the high tax on fuel - petrol, diesel and gas. One cannot blame the Central Govt alone for the tax. The state governments also are levying heavy tax on fuel. This fact has to be clearly understood by the people. Secondly, in a country of 130 crore people, only around 2% are paying direct taxes. Unfortunately, when the Govt has to levy indirect taxes to get some revenue. We want world class services, be it roads, transport, electricity, education or medical facilities. We want subsidies also for everything. As many people have pointed out here, most of the small shops do not accept virtual currency like credit or debit cards but only hard cash. No receipts are given. If at all, they give only hand written receipts. If one comes to Chennai one can see in busy localities like Parrys Corner and Mount Road (especially Richie Street) thousands of crores of rupees per month worth business is transacted without bills. If these are mopped up, the taxes can be reduced. However, i would say that the average man on the street in our country is corrupt and till he changes, the politicians, bureaucracy (including judiciary) and the media which form a powerful triangle will not shift for the better. more

I suggest the LC do a quick/urgent poll on this very important point raised once again by Mr Amit Mishra. This subject has been in discussion for the past several years. Apparently, government orders are there for every shop to have machines to provide e-receipts to buyers, however small or big the amount. Some shopkeepers in our local market installed such machines but then with time one began to hear "machine is out of order" and that was the end of the matter......Though some shops like the pharmacies continue to use e-machines for receipts. Implementation of laws is good, but then those laws become redundant if there's no follow-up or check. more

Perfect Taxing Prompt Collections inevitable Punishments on Tax Avoidance and Unfair Accounting are fast Required to be implemented IN ORDER TO RELAX TAX SLABS AND PERCENTAGE. Otherwise it becomes a Wrong application. This is long awaited and is most important in Public Economy. more
