Need standards for security in religious places

I've been to the Golden Temple twice. However, during the second visit, a security guard hit my cousin with his stick because her dupatta was falling a bit. She was in terrible pain. He could have easily told her to adjust the dupatta, but no. The arrogance was unbearable.

Also similarly when mom in law had gone to Tirupati with her sisters she narrated how they were pushed worse than cattle by men touching them.

We badly need what security and staff in these temples can and cannot do. Its not ok to put a fight in religious places though some of us who go in groups can.

Everyone please share your experiences and let us escalate this.

LocalCircles I thought is best platform for consensus building so posting here: more

A place of worship has to be calm and less chaotic. A mad rush is neither warranted nor desirable in the interest of the people who have come to pray. Crowding such centres is perhaps the least spiritual act. Most of the problems of heaving, shoving and pushing are one of discipline amongst our people. The security agencies are not descended from a god. They reflect the same character as our society. All this can improve with better education and inculcation of good standards of etiquette amongst citizens. We keep saying great things about culture and our values, but do we show it in practice? We tend to behave in an indiscipline manner in public spaces whether it be getting into public vehicles or use of any public facility like toilets etc. The same tendency follows in places of worship as well. It's not about making standards and enforcing them. A lot of this needs self-discipline, empathy and an understanding of what is good for us and our fellow beings. This is beyond the culture of touching the feet of elders, taking a bath before entering a place of worship etc. Mumbai used to be more disciplined around 10 years ago as compared to today. It was known as a place where people followed the Q system diligently. Now, it is in exception. We need to stem the rot across the country. more
In any place of worship, push and pull are common. Push and pull are done by the volunteers. Or guards - be it male or female. Mainly during weekends, during festive seasons long holidays, the crowd always unruly. To avoid rush, various place of worship, various methods by paying for rush free worship. Either adopt and move with the system or enjoy push and pull. more
Definitely we need protocol/rather standard in every walk of life in India. See, these things comes in picture when we have sufficient food water and other basic amenities to all. This year our 25 million people have overcome the poverty line, this shows that we are progressing well . I am sure as we continue progressing well economically the country will have good quality system in all walk of life. more
We Indians have a habit of pushing through in crowded places. We do not observe calm walking in queue. So the people dealing with the crowd become harsh by nature. In police stations and Government offices, for example, you do find staff behaving very rudely. I think the officials controlling as well as dealing with people have to be trained to be more soft. But how the crowd is to be trained?. There the discipline has to come from upbringing. more
GOD is all pervasive and one can see within if one is so spiritual and true to scriptures. Unfortunately the present trend is by visiting Holy places one can get rid off all his sins. This is the main reason for exponential growth in Visitors to temples. Population growth is one more reason. If the person is on true Pilgrimage, his benaviour should be decent and will maintain decoram. But unfortunately most of them are not true Pilgrims but only Tourists and holiday spenders. One should take call himself and introspect. Jai Sri Ram. more
