New Indian figures , heights weights ; Wake up:

The space for seating provided in the Indian railways hasn’t increased much , in the common classes , why hasn’t at all since Independence except cushioning in the 60’s . The size and dimensions of seats provided were probably calculated on the basis of the national average weight and height then in the 50’s . But hasn’t realized over the years along with the average life expectancy the other 2 parameters have also been on the rise # . I particularly mention on the rise as this is not the end figure .

Even today railways should not go by the average figures , as there is a good percentage of travelers far above the national figures. A travel from Chennai to Bengaluru by Brindavan Express [the poor mans train totally non A/C seats alone ] and Double Decker [Patronized by middle lower middle class , may be even a few rich to avoid the surge fairs of Shatabdi totally A/C.] will throw enough and more light for the designers . That is why we feel uncomfortable when we travel in the diminutive seats provided for us for 5 ½ Hours . Even population of 45 % with normal B.M.I 25 find it difficult to travel more than 2 hours in these two Trains . THERE MAY BE MANY SUCH TRAINS IN OTHER ZONAL RAILWAYS THAT WILL NEED ATTENTION.

In Brindavan type of seats the railways hasn’t given a thought on the increasing weight and girth of the Indian . In the Double Decker , it is yet to consider the increasing height part of it One even as tall as 5’8”[ 173 c m] finds it difficult to go to the window seat.

BAGGAGE SPACE : The average traveling Indian’s needs have increased after general improvement in economic status and as such the baggage size has also increased. In the upper deck it is hardly 8” high which can only accommodate the small bag and lap tops . Even a shoulder bag has to be pushed in with great difficulty . There are many with huge suitcases not knowing where to keep them and obstruct the passage .Atleast make decision disallow or charge more and provide a baggage space somewhere.

Respected Minister sir ,Railways has designers to design to suit the changing needs of the passenger ; otherwise coach building Factory workers can do the coaches without any changes.

SO IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR THE DESIGNERS TO TRAVEL IN SUCH TRAINS, EXPERIENCE WHAT THE PASSENGERS ARE EXPERIENCING BEFORE THEY SIT IN FRONT OF THE DESIGN BOARD.
Make the dream of Minister come true . more

Length and width of berths is another issue of Indian Railways. Specially side berths of second class sleeper is not enough to stretch our legs completely. Also width should be increased. more

I agree that space should be humanly provided for comfortable travel to all it is obvious requirement that Railways do not incur loss to decrease the seats to cater to these extra leg room or space it maybe necessary to increase fares by 5% and add more trains with reduced capacities in coaches or add extra coaches wherever feasible ,also electrify all the Trunk routes so that more trains with extra coaches could be allowed. Thanks more
The tragedy with the general public (the tax payers) of this country is that they are not at all considered as humane beings by the incompetent & dishonest politicians and the ministers and have always been considered at par with the cattle. Just look at the plight of those who are travelling in an unreserved general coach whose plight is no better than the cattle. Lallu Yadav, as rail minister added additional berths in between two side berths of every three tier coach without applying his mind making journey in these coaches by those ill fated passengers getting allotment in these berths a painful nightmare. To gain cheap popularity and vote bank, these wicked leaders are making all sorts of mischief in the name of cheaper travelling without caring for the minimum required comfort for the passengers. Let us hope that good sense prevails in the railway ministry realising the sufferings of the common man and proactive action is taken keeping in mind the minimum required comforts for a person travelling in a train for several hours. However, the passengers should also get prepared to accept the extra cost for more comfort. more
