New Railway Board Chairman & CEO: A Promising Step for Indian Railways

The appointment of the new Railway Board Chairman and CEO brings welcome news and renewed hope for Indian Railways (IR) users, promising a safer and more reliable future. Despite the immense demand placed on the rail network, which serves over 30 million passengers daily, the system continues to function with remarkable resilience. With 13,500 trains in operation, the absence of significant disruption—except in cases of unfortunate accidents—speaks to the enduring trust that Indians have placed in the 171-year-old institution.

However, it would be unwise to take this confidence for granted by dismissing safety concerns due to a low accident ratio. The sheer scale of operations necessitates vigilance and continuous improvement. The faith in Indian Railways must be matched by proactive measures to ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Certain roles, particularly leadership positions like that of the Railway Board Chairman, require not just technical and managerial expertise but also on-the-ground engagement. Regular interaction with the various sections of the workforce— from frontline workers to middle management—is crucial. Building a committed team and keeping all employees informed and confident in the direction IR is heading are essential steps toward progress. Beyond digitization, this human element is key to sustaining the future of Indian Railways.

The responsibility now rests heavily on Mr. Satish Kumar, the newly appointed Railway Board Chairman and CEO, and his team. Their leadership will be pivotal in driving the necessary changes while preserving the trust of millions of passengers.

At the same time, the public has a role to play. Support from passengers, particularly in terms of cleanliness and timely reporting of issues, will go a long way in helping IR achieve its vision of becoming a world-class railway system. After all, Indian Railways already ranks first in two global parameters and fourth in another—a testament to its potential on the world stage.

In conclusion, while the task ahead is significant, both leadership and public cooperation will be key in shaping the future of Indian Railways into a safer, cleaner, and more efficient network. - Jai hind more

sr citizens issue has been long pending and no body wants to look into them and only vande bharat trains is what the earlier minister was taking caring off as if irctc runs only VB trains and all other are not important and all the funds were diverted to it and when maintenance etc are outsourced then accidents are bound to happen which we are seeing on a daily basis. Some of the critical aspects like inspection of tracks /signalling and hygience and cleanliness need to be under railways supervision since they know the details of how to do it and not give it to people who are not competent enough and also lack the drive and knowledge to do it .Hope the new chairman looks into these and addresses them and also Sr citizens concessions which were there before covid needs to be restored. If local circles should do a survey on this and send it across to the chairman for necessary action more
Joining of mr satish kumar as chairman may be a ray of hope for sr citizens.Accidents, ticket black marketing, strict action against Antisocial elements who put objects on railway tracks, speeding up of long route mail exp.trains like Trno 14313,increasing the frequency, delay on outer signals, replacement of old coaches, cleanliness and healthy food items supply to passengers are main challenges. more
Already many areas have been handed over to private parties. Better to not privatize more haphazardly & invite further corruption & less accountability. more
With a welcome note to Mr. Satish Kumar request to look into the matter of Sr. Citizens' Concession which we were enjoying earlier! more
True long pending, pushed under the carpet quit a long time ago more
On the other side, co-passengers in sleeper classes take others for granted. The timing of berth is 9 pm to 6 am. If A passenger holding a lower berth wants to sit, it's very uncomfortable while the middle berth holder still sleeps! The middle berth holder, travelling from previous station(s) remains lying even till 10 am and beyond. It would be very difficult to bring him down. TTEs are not found except when they come for checking! Police are a rare scene. Suitable measures are to be taken to address this uncivilized behaviour. This problem has no solution presently as population is huge and trains are limited. Ticketless travel is rampant due to corruption and nonaccountability of TTEs and RPF.
50% privatization is the only solution. more
