New Revenue and Cost Reduction in Railways

Here is a list of key inputs from you on what can be done by Railways to increase revenues or reduce leakages. Kindly review and share very specific inputs that can be implemented in Rail Budget 2016.

We look forward to your inputs!

Revenue and Cost Reduction in Railways

1. Railways land could be used to construct offices/warehouses and leased to private
companies
2. Time spent by citizens in trains can be effectively monetized through spas/ayurveda
massages/treatments/ e-library/movies etc.
3. The inside and outside of the trains could be used for advertisements like the Delhi Metro
4. Install LCD display in chair cars and use it to display time/station and advertisements
5. Platform tickets and journey tickets can have advertisement at the back
6. Railways could build a hotel on the floors above the platform to generate revenue
7. Multi-story office space could be constructed in place of existing station premises and
rented out
8. Chargeable wi-fi services in trains and on platforms
9. Railway stations could be put to limited commercial use
10. Rates of the platform ticket could be raised
11. All the passes should be converted to tickets and the money should be realized from the
ministries
12. The fines collected from passengers should be collected against receipts so that the right
amount could be reported
13. Attach some goods bogies to the passenger trains too to carry courier/urgent shipments
14. Automation of the cleaning process as much possible to reduce spend on human resources
15. The tendering process should be completely computerized and made transparent so that the
best party could get the contract and railway could save money
16. Man power planning using industrial engineering techniques and reassignment of excess
man power
17. Usage of industrial engineering and operations research techniques to increase Productivity of
men, material and railway stock
18. During summer vacations rake redeployment could be considered to meet the increased demand
19. Frequency of certain trains on low occupancy routes can be reduced so that rakes are
available
20. For increasing revenue from freight, the railways can attract higher volume by providing
competitive rates and guaranteed delivery without pilferage
21. Pilferage and theft during storage and transit should be controlled
22. Introduction Roll on and Roll off (RORO) services in all major freight corridors. This will reduce
road congestion and also will increase revenue to the railways
23. Solar paneling of the Railways should be tried
24. The steel, iron and other waste material lying by the tracks across the country should be put
to use or sold off
25. Tatkal cancellation incentives to be given so TTE leakage gets translated into Railway Revenue
26. Emergency Quota tickets beyond real citizen Emergencies and tickets for MPs, MLAs to be priced at Premium Tatkal rates
27. Re-skilling and Re-deployment of Railway staff from areas with excess manpower to areas like passenger safety, helpline call centers, cleaning supervision, etc. more

23-10-2016 Bangalore To The Railway Ministry and our Prime Minister. Sir, Reg.increasing railway income with little cost or no extra cost to Railways. My workable concept or model : INTRODUCTION OF RAILWAY CUSTOMERS. Thousands of crores of rupees can be generated if my model is introduced. My concept is commercial exploitation of new sources of revenue for our Railways. MY CONCEPT IS THE FIRST ONE IN THE WORLD. I AM CONFIDENT ABOUT THIS. IF RAILWAYS OR OUR PRIME MINISTER ASK FOR DETAILS, I WILL PROVIDE. If they respond, it means that they have zeal to implement. Waiting for e-mail. I will send details. With regards, - Nagaraj T V 09844200688 nagarajtirumanivemuela@gmail.com more
