NGOs in India - Inputs on Issues

A non-governmental organization (NGO) is the term commonly used for an organization that is neither a part of a government nor a conventional for-profit business. Usually set up by ordinary citizens, NGOs may be funded by governments, foundations, businesses, or private persons. Some avoid formal funding altogether and are run primarily by volunteers.

However, in India only a small percent of NGOs are effective in having real on the ground impact. In some cases, the NGO channel is misused to divert profits. In some other cases, the funding raised by a NGO is misused.

With this post, we request every member of this circle to share the various issues they have observed/experienced with the NGOs in India. Once we understand the Issues, we will follow our structured approach and review Root Causes and Solutions with the objective of putting together a whitepaper for the relevant Government stake holders so key actions can be taken to improve the NGO set up, metrics, accountability, reporting and impact in India.

I look forward to your participation!

Genunity check is always required unfortunately this is now being tranlated as Annual Turnover/ sound Finanace, multi coloured Annual reports which most philanthropists , Funding Agencies and Corporates are looking for them to partner with and when a NGO is capable of taking care of these above are no more into doing actual field services except hiring a kind of personals with high pay ... Whereas few of them Start out of personal realisation, Inspiration and dedication wants to serve the humanity will not have much time and money to take care of above said tests therefore it is tough time to perform like corporate foundations which starts foundation with the motive not to loose the money which suppose to go for the community in the name of CSR .. to be very clear Bussiness and Service are opposite in direction and it is foolishness to tell tge world that we r doing both at the same time. .. This is not to hurt any one but it is personal opinion. Jaya Singh more
CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is a good move. A percentage of Company turnover is to be used for CSR and that amount is tax deductible. Many large corporations, such as Tatas, ITC, L&T, Dabur etc are doing very good work in villages, with education, health and skill training. These are all NGOs. It is not fair to condemn NGOs and ban all of them just because some are corrupt.Throwing the baby out with the bath water. more
NGOs AND POLITICAL PARTIES SHALL COMPULSORILY ACCOUNT THEIR RECEIPT , PAYMENTS AND EXPENDITURE AND STATUTORY AUDIT IS TO BE MADE A MUST. more
Why do we need NGOs...Identify the areas where NGOs are working....Plan do get those areas under some govt controlled departments...Simple...NGOs are a means of converting the black money to white.....NGOs are a means of direct foreign funding for division of India.....NGOs whose transactions are more than 10 lac per annum should be banned with immidiate effect.. more
Please remove the tax benefit aspect from donations to NGOs...Those who really want to donate will nto think about income tax rebate and those who think about saving taxes open NGOs daily to dodge the tax payment..... more
