Nutraceuticals and herbs

Under the category of nutraceuticals and herbs all kinds of stuff is sold to people in India. Companies like Patanjali, Himalaya and hundreds of others are taking advantage and in the name of immunity, better vitality and better sexual life are selling all kinds of products (many with side effects) to people.

The latest move by Govt to move regulation of such products from fssai (food body) to cdsco (drug administrator is a good one. This will ensure that only safe products make it to consumer and should be prescribed by the Doctor.

LC Manager should take this issue up. more

In a free world capitalists try to leverage opportunities. This is again a case of Caveat Emptor viz. Buyers beware. As long as there is expectation and demand, rampant sale of sub-standard/placebo products will continue. Today, it is said that homeopathy is a sham, but for more than a century it was touted as an alternative medicine. Ayurved in its original form is lost to time and there is no way to completely resurrect it unless we find some archealogical records in future. Many of the raw materials are scarce and products are supposed to be prepared in a specific way. However, without following the methods or by using subsitute ingredients or fillers, products are produced and doled out. These can do more harm than good. There are instances of wrong dosages, poisoning through overdose of arsenic and lead in some of the ayurvedic medicines is a bane. Government regulation has to take into account the impact to human life and not just be another means for teh government to make money by levying fines. We have enough law, regulations and bodies, but they dont seem to do justice to the real problem. more
It is a very good initiative BUT provided it is implemented properly more
Fssai & Cdsco should investigate the efficicacy of suvh products. more
How an allopathic doctor can prescribe wellness products produced n marketed by Ayurveda companies ? A GAMS Doctor will definitely to do but how many people to such doctors. People are buying wellness products off the shelf and they might be observing some improvement that's why these companies are doing good business. The show will go on like the beauty products. more
Sure. Good move. People taken. Safety and effectiveness are the main issue more
