Online platforms failing to lower prices of fruits veggies

The localcircles survey on fruit veggies prices online being too high and quality average very much resonates with us.

It is the truth. I thought that after 3-4 years platforms like big basket will be able to increase price paid to farmer and lower cost paid by consumers by replacing the middlemen. But if you look at their prices it seems that they are failing or themselves have become like traditional middle men.

Kinnow farmer example is best they seling for 5/kg and bb selling for 40-60/kg. They must pay 10-15/kg to farmer and sell for 30/kg which they arent doing. more

Fruits and Vegetables are more prone to off season Heavy Rain and thus Crop is Spoiled. It causes shortages and in turn Price Rise. more
Major tweaks and revamps are needed in this delivery model. It will take several years to serve a majority of the populace in order to reduce the price arbitrage vis a vis the farmer and the end consumer. You also need more oeprators in the retail domain to do that. Today, not even 5% of metrios are being served through such business models. more
They already hike the rates and then offer discounts and fruits & vegeies they should be serving better quality but there also it's worse. Now I too personally go and buy from market more
very rarely any grocery item is cheaper in online like jio/bigbasket/spar etc from the local vendor or who comes in cart near your door and brings limited qty and fresh and i usually buy from them and support them for their living than these big organisations who on either side fleece the customers and also the farmer .I would be happy if people support these road side vendors for their daily livelihood more
What I find is that, Swiggy, FTH, BB etc., have become costly due to increase in delivery charges. The prices are about 10 percent more than local kirana shops and vegetable vendors. Quality is not much different. The application based purchases save time, effort of senior citizens, petrol cost. It has the comfort of limited return and cancel facilities. We have to be choosy as each item sells at different margins in various sources. Ofcourse the farmer and consumer are exploited. There is no control on middle men, they decide their standards of operation and living! Else Communism should be there. more
