I was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Bangalore on 18th April 2015 having PNR number:6238448345 in Prashanti express(18463). I saw every where in Indian railways catering vendors are involved in overcharging. They charge in different ways. I stopped at Vijaynagaram, Visakhapatanam , Vijayawada and finally at Bangalore a water bottle costs me in station ranging from 17,18 to 20 Rs. I know this is running from long back , but I was expecting a change this time due to a strict government in power. This is purely in the hand of central govt. but where is the change? Story does not end here. Inside train there is even a bigger loot a tea cup costs you Rs 10 where as Railway has set a price of 7 Rs. A standard veg meal costs you 100 Rs where as govt has set 50 Rs per meal. What is making them to indulge in overcharging is the bribe paid by vendor to obtain the tender. I got surprised to see a small pack of two biscuits are getting sold for 3 Rs and the packet does not carry any price tag. Please investigate this matter and address the matter overcharging with highest priority more
The only way this kind of loot to be stopped is to have competition. Now the present vendors know that the passengers dont have any choice and have to necessarily buy only from them and hence they will indulge in every kind of malpractice. The railways should allow more vendors maybe the competition will force the vendors not to overcharge. Or the bills must be computerised and the vendor allowed only to give that bill in that case the rate will be clear and the vendor dare not overcharge. more
Rates of water and tea is fixed by railways but vendors are charging more. No unauthorized vendors should be permitted on railway platforms. The railway police should be responsible for that to check those vendors. There should be check that fresh eatables are given to the travelers not expired dated. Many local travelers travel without ticket and board even in the reserved bogies which makes difficult for the reserved passengers. There should be a automatic lock to the bogies after the train start from the platform. This is the regulation in the western world railways. If India wants to improve the services in railways, they have to follow the advanced countries. more
Absolutely agreed with the overcharging issue. Any train bound to New Jalpaiguri station, after crossing Malda Junction teas are sold @ Rs. 10, Mineral Water @ Rs. 20 and many more. Offcourse this is done by external vendors who should never be allowed to board the train. more
