Passport Services - Citizen Survey Results

Many of you had participated in the LocalCircles passport survey and discussion to share your experiences in getting a passport. The survey findings suggest that while the new passport sewa kendras have made the process efficient and faster, the police verification continues to be an area of harassment for citizens. Below are the reports:

Citizen Passport Survey - LocalCircles Report

Citizen Passport Survey - Media Report

The above reports have also been shared with Ministers in External Affairs Ministry, Home Minister, Home Secretary, Chief Ministers and heads of police of large states for action. Some have even come back with a response stating they are orienting police forces to be sensitive to this concern.

Do share any new and recent experience and what has worked well or not worked well for you when trying to get a new passport or renew one! more

Since Adhar department is required to modify to add all the details of a citizen so that no further enquiry or investigation required as varification only based on the Adhar the passport must be issued as an ID to travel a man to any othere country more

We have a recent experience for making "address changes" in my and my wife's passports. Our experience is was follows. We applied online for changes in passport on 14th July, got appointments on 16th July, Police verification was carried out within four hours of our submitting documents at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). We are informed that the Passports have been dispatched through Speed Post on 19th July. The speed and ease of processing was really amazing. We thank the authorities for installing such a speedy system. There were also some unease times with a few persons in the Kolkata PSK at Anandapur. A few Security staff behaved very rudely unnecessarily. The behavior of the staff issuing Token at Counter No. 7A was too bad. Other than these two areas all other people behaved rationally and cordially. If these odd areas are taken care of and the authorities introduce a Feedback system, the working of the Passport offices will become an example in itself. more
POLICE VERIFICATION IS REALLY PAINFUL AND LOT OF TIME IS WASTED IN DUPLICATING INFORMATION ALREADY PROVIDED.IT SHOULD BE AUTOMATIC FOR ALL CITIZENS WHO DO NOT HAVE ANY POLICE CASE PENDING. more
There has been an improvement. But I was asked to go through making an affidavit while renewing my passport because there was a small water mark on one of the empty pages. This passport was going to be scrapped anyway, but the officer insisted. He probably thought I would offer him a bribe to over look this small irrelevant matter. I went through the procedure he asked me to do. At the time of giving me my new passport, they retained the old passport which had all the stamps of the visas of my journeys. As a result when I applied for visa to Europe this year I could not submit my old passport as required and could not prove that I had travelled before to visit my niece. My visa was rejected as they thought I would not return to India. Can anyone guide me as to how I can get back my old passport that they retained. This is the first time they have done it. I always got my old passport back at the time to renewal. more
