Politics Behind Smart City Selection

Since Smart city is directly related to land price appreciation, I agree with Indian Express article below that the selection process was done behind closed doors and not in consultation with citizens despite Modi saying so.

How can the Government make it transparent. Why cant they make the states do voting atleast like we poll on performance of Govt and give some weightage to what citizens are saying. Noida and Greater Noida has not been picked but Kanpur and Rampur are in from UP. I mean come on by hiring one CEO and having 1 SPV, the UP govt will convert Rampur into a smart city. Did Akhilesh YAdav or anyone from centre even visit Rampur Civic Bodies once to understand situation on ground. Did anyone talk to citizens on ground.

Like this, all of this will become a bubble which will burst one day with 1000s of crores wasted across the country. Another broadband in panchayat initaitive. Does the PM understand whats at risk here?

list is sent by state govt on certain criteria . not by central govt.. please take all detail before making any allegation . more
Let the things move. There is no pint in questioning the methodology for selection of the smart cities. more
Whatever system of selection you adopt, there is going to be criticism. Instead of waiting for the outcome, people have already started denouncing it as a failure. These prophets of doom will find a problem everywhere. Even if the proposal was to be voted, who would have voted? Perhaps only journalists because they are only know alls in this country. more
Pl. wait go for positive approach give full time to implement the plans. more
My view the present system is OK as the state govt knows which city has to be nominated and why. If we go for voting, there is no end to it. Each person votes on his choice and every vote has value so it can not be decided on sheer majority of votes. more
