Poor state of power supply in India

Have you ever lived 5 days without electricity? Well, it's day 5 in Uttarakhand & counting days here.

Cost of living and doing business as of today is about ₹2500/day minimum to run the office DG set and the petrol generator at home. That's life in remote rural India for you.

Storm apparently knocked out the transformer that supplies electricity to our part of the village.

No replacement available locally, apparently a new one has to come from Rishikesh and it is being tendered as it has to be installed by a contractor.

Things work slowly in rural areas. We have called the SDM, SDO, Tahsildar, netas, JE, AE everyone.

Weather has to co-operate to install the new transformer after it arrives. It will weigh a few hundred kilos and will have to be carried from the road to the transformer location by a huge team of villagers.

Current best estimate is 7 days for a new transformer to reach. We are also seeing if some old transformer with just one phase working can be rigged up to take the slack for now.

Heading to the nearest fuel station, 60 kms away, tomorrow in the car with 4 x 40L Jerry cans. Will have to haul 80 litres each of petrol and diesel to keep life going.

Sharing to let everyone know how vulnerable rural India is to power outages that too tourism states more

Bhagwan (GODs) were living without electricity. It is devbhumi hence you don't need electricity. more
India still has very Poor Infrastructure, specially in Poor States. Their Govts are all Corrupt, and enjoyed Power. Voters are also Fools, who are voting for them. more
Maam, you are speaking of the troubles in rural India, I am telling you that in urban Pune, at Lulla Nagar, the power goes off at least 5 times a day, every day without any information whatsoever. It destroys our internet, our fridges, our TVs and our desire for living. After hundreds of complaints nothing is done as they say this is damaged and that is damaged. The government agencies for power are a poor lot compared to the BEST electric company in Mumbai but Pune has MSEDCL and that is where the problem lies. And this is Modi's shinning India and his false promise in 2014 that if you want 24x7 electricity vote for MODI. Thirty years have passed but the situation is becoming worse day by day. more
Un-necessary Complaint, when you yourself state that power problem arose due to failure of transformer in a storm.. more
why don't you opt for solar option? in long term it can be better for you. what about state and central govt? what they are doing? i read some where they spent billions of ruppes to generate dam and power, what is the ultimate result? more
