POSITIONING OF THE UTILITIES IN THE TOILETS :

The 2 pictures pertains to the positioning of the utilities in the Toilets . Here we see the mirror when door is opened and the wash basin below . If one goes to wash the face gets in closes the door and stays in the dry area and gets back after washing , without soiling his feet / shoes / slippers . So the passenger goes to the berth seat without soiling enroute. Though this was compartment was an old model seem to be passenger friendly and hygienic and sensible.

The toilet commode / seat is to the left . The left also has a wash area , which we expect to be wet . So those who use the toilet only for face washing ,brushing needn't enter the wet area at all.

The later toilets are designed in such a way that when one wants to have a wash or look into the mirror , they have to get into the wet area soil their feet / shoes .

This can be avoided for the sake of cleanliness , keeping the toilet dry [at least one half ] .

I REQUEST THE DESIGNING AUTHORITIES TO CONSIDER THIS WHILE MAKING NEW COACHES.

Changes are not necessary unless the new design is an improvement over the existing. Jai Hind more

The internal arrangements of toilets in Indian Railway toilets is extremely inconvenient. Added to that is the dirty habits of passengers who have no proper knowledge to use them. As suggested, the toilets should have a dry area, which can be used by passengers who simply want to wash face or see in the mirror. Other suggestions are that the toilet seats should be spring loaded to get folded automatically when no one is sitting on them, to avoid their soiling. Further, the size of wash basins inside and outside toilets has been reduced to less than half of what used to be there, bringing in too much of inconvenience in using them. Please restore the sizes. more
I believe the railways toilet design has to be handed over to a design consultancy who will study work technically and improve also make it aesthetically pleasing .. also the toilets in the train must have additional vibration isolators more
The trouble with toilets in Railways is of the design as well as improper use by customers. The western seats are not kept clean by the customers leading to inconvenience. The passengers must try to keep the seats, toilets clean and dry. more
There should be no such thing as an "Indian toilet" in railway coaches, simply because there is no such thing. It's just a hole in the ground, not really a toilet suitable for use in a clean environment. Every country in the world had such "hole in the ground" toilets 500 years back (nothing Indian about them), but they eventually upgraded to hygienic toilets where the water and fecal matter is contained within the toilet bowl and spillage is unlikely by design. We need to do the same and totally eschew these holes, and not hang on to some outmoded idea that this is an "Indian toilet". more
Whatever may be the position, the main problem is the water spreading over the standing area due to improper discharge of water in to the toilet while flushing and improper usage of water by the passenger after using the toilet. I feel that the indian toilet let should be taken down at least by 100 mm (around 4") from the floor level and the floor should be slightly tapered towards the toilet for water, if any, for easy drain out more
