Possible Improvement in Reservation System

The IRCTC gives us an option of booking only if lower berth is available. The actual process needs some improvement.

If lower berth is not there it gives us an option to continue with the booking or cancel the process.

The flaw is that cancelling the process debits the fare from your account, and is refunded after a few days automatically. In some cases the refund does not really neutralise the transaction, and you lose a small amount whenever this happens.

IRCTC should not do the bank process if the passenger does not wish to proceed with the booking.

In fact this kind of filtering should be done before even asking for payment details. more

Yes , no cancellation charge should be applicable if the preferred berth is not available. more
The reported instance of Sri Parameswaran for booking lower berth and cancellation due to non availability of lower berth is alarming. Since railway is not been able to provide, IRCTC should not deduct any money. Even if passenger goes at counter & required berth is not available no charges are asked. Bank also charges for paying the money to IRCTC, thus passenger is to pay both institutions for no SERVICE rendered to him. This should be brought to the notice of MD IRCTC, CRIS, Additional Member finance, & Railway Minister. Software may be improved immediately. If somebody file with consumer forum IRCTC may be asked to refund the whole money. Similarly some other member has complained about the heavy deduction on the cancellation of a wait listed ticket. Since railway do not have a seat or can not provide, no cancellation charges should be levied. If for the bad financial condition of railway it want to recover the actual cost of booking, deduction should be the actual cost. Not a punishment charges. Foram may put it to Railway & Finance Minister for consideration in the budget it self. more
Noted the observation. It seems present practice is Okay. Cancellation pay problems seems to be with mainly customer and agent. On Thu, Jan 5, 2017 at 7:44 PM, C C Parameswaran < support@localcirclesmail.com> wrote: > more
Is there any way passengers booking online know which berth or seat they are being allocated before proceeding to payment? more
Cancellation charges are just too unreasonably high. It's like the Railways get a "second" income from cancellations. Genuine passengers are punished for no legitimate reasons. People are forced to make cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances & not for whimsical reasons, which unfortunately Railways have no care or concern about. Their "second" income is more important!! more
