Prabhu missing in Rail Bhavan since 23rd Aug

Apparently Suresh Prabhu our rail minister has stopped attending office since aug 23rd and has missed all public events since the . He is issuing instructions from home. Most likely he will get water resources ministry.

I hope who so ever is the next minister they listen to people more than the rail bhavan babus for babus have already done it the old way. Even people like Ratan Tata and many other didnt seem to have made any impact.

The new leader must be a strong headed person and if nitin gadkari is brought in he should only be focusing on railways and no other ministry.

Everyone agrees? more

The first and foremost the thing the new railway minister should do is to run the train in time and take proper safety measure so as to avoid accident. Also keep the platform and the compartment clean. During my journey last week from Rourkela to Panvel by Santragachhi Pune SF express, firstly the train was 9 hours late and secondly the compartments were not at all maintained and were very dirty. After a chain of tweeter by self, at Bhusaval station, one person came to my berth and sprayed some perfume. He did not clean the compartment. i have sent a mail to railway Minister. Let us see what action the authority is going to take. more
Piyush Goyal takes over the Railways Minister. Let us hope, he will be rational in his approach. Let there be uniformity in the Railway fares - no dynamic charges. Cancellation charges are eased out and it should not be treated as a booty for the travelers - unable to travel for reasons beyond control. The brokers are kept at a bay. Tatkal tickets are made available to general public and not black marketed through brokers. It seems the pirated software is available to block the Railway website during the tatkal booking period. Let the ministry get the good wishes of the general public, which will keep the accidents at bay. more
it is not just the person on the top's responsibility. Railways is one area, where one person sitting on top at any place / position can have a view of what is happening and where every now and then. A lot depends on the people at the ground. THe person at the top can only provide the ideas, vision, etc. All of us, including me, are responsible for what is happening in the country. None raised any voices of fear. It is high time, we all think and stop all corrupt practices. THis must happen at the ground level. WE must keep our country on top. THis applies to all that we purchase. Many of the businessmen does not want to issue bills or accept payments by cheque or card. He just states that this will involve GST. why is he worried about GST, when that is borne by the purchaser. He wants to protect his or her pocket by not paying taxes. Such people must be exposed. THe government can provide a channel for reporting such instances. This can then be tracked by the local authorities, esp. the state v=government, who loses on the GST as well. The state government machinery must act on these, through their own ways and means. They can confirm the matter, by sending someone who intends to by his product, and his or her shop can then be taken over by the government. All these loopholes need be plugged, if we have to increase the government's income and in the same way stress for reduced income tax rates. more
The Bullet train is a perverse idea in the context of contemporary economics of the nation, in particular, the Indian railways. The idea came because Japan wants to dole out long term project loans and they can do so by participating in a Bullet train project. Japan wants to dump their excess capital in such projects because there is hardly any scope of economic activities there. The Central bank of Japan works on a negative interest rate. Mr Suresh prabhu, as a railway minister was harassed by PM, PMO and the finance Ministry by not releasing funds for urgent safety and maintenance expenses. At the same time he was taken to task for not focusing on bullet train project, which was a pet project of PM and PMO , purely on grounds of visibility and doing something 'chamatkar'. Who needs a bullet train ? If one takes into consideration the real cost of running a bullet train, it will be in multiples of executive class air fare between the same two points. And where it will run? In the same corridor where several fast and luxury trains are already running. How many can use it? A fraction of a percentage of Indian rich. The common man in the hinterland of the country numbering more than 99% of the Railway users continue to travel in jam packed coaches, with outdated facilities and on tracks, where serious accidents are waiting to happen. Why ? Because there is not enough fund to augment the Railway stocks with safe coaches, hygienic ambiance and for replacing decades old tracks which are in desperate need of repairs and replacement. I appeal to PM, his trusted men and the mandarins of the Railway Board to come back to reality , dump your propensity to produce 'chamatkar', keep aside ego , and focus on the plight of the common men and women. This was a platform on which NDA was voted to power in the last election. I hope the new Railway minister will act, and will be allowed to act, on priorities which are rational and are designed to deliver results for the larger interest of the country. Will the LocalCircle manager like to conduct a poll as to what the members like to accord a priority, a bullet train or replacing unsafe tracks, given the constraints of the Railway budget ? more
Mr. Barua is right, Railway should focus only on new tracks, replace age old tracks, coaches and signaling system with latest technology which ultimately increase the speed as well as capacity of the railway and its revenue. Since we have wast population with middle and lower class people to afford the rail journey. more
