Priorities for Railways

Bullet train infrastructure is too expensive for our country, given the current state of the economy - high prices, corruption etc.Our priority should be to make train travel available to more people and wipe out the waiting lists for most trains. This would mean that we should have many more trains with enhanced passenger capacity, to clear the huge backlog of waiting lists.
During holiday seasons, the situation becomes so critical that, you cannot even enter any compartment in any train.People are forced to travel in sub human conditions.During such times, we need still more trains.
It is clear that we should increase the number of trains and passenger carrying capacity of trains, rather than the speed of trains. Its enough if people are able to travel comfortably, even if, they have to spend more hours in the train.
For people who want faster travel, we already have the option of air travel, which is growing at a healthy rate. There are many many flights catering to more and more destinations.
Considering the above, spending Rs.98,000 crore on infrastructure for a bullet train would be an astronomical waste of resources. more

remove cross subsidizing the passenger fare. Secondly, agents for goods / parcel booking should be removed as it leads to black marketing. more
Ajit Saraf (Environmental Consultant) Railway authorities must insure Healthy, Hygienic food on platform, particularly oil used for frying, cleaning of utensils, use of gloves, cleaned dressed staff, by introducing Standards, timely supervision & calling opinions of visitors/passengers. Daily checking of food samples is essential. Distribution of cold drinks /tea/ packed water-bottle, cooked food distributed on platform, under supervision of staff to control adulteration & misuse of substandard material. Pl see the video shown on Whats-app on subject of tea prepared & distributed on railway platform by using white poster colors for last more than 10years. To reduce heavy rush on Railway specific routes, trains starting from different stations /junctions and ending at different stations/junctions on same routes may be started to help other cities on routes to avail rail facility efficiently, & will help in developing cities for education & trade- business. For example additional trains on Mumbai to Nagpur Rout may start from kalyan/Nasik/ Manmad on the same route having final destination extended ahead of Nagpur like Gondia or any other major city or Junction in the vicinity. This will help in reducing passenger load from Metro /Corporation area, & more flexibility in travelling more
bullet train services would be meant for the upper sections of the society... railway should first make the current infrastructure and facilities work effectively and user friendly. more
BESIDE BULLET TRAIN GOVERNMENT SPENT MONEY IN INCREASING AVERAGE SPEED UP TO 150KM /HR NO DEVIATION ON THIS more
What is the fancy for bullet train? The lofty talks and hastiness shown for the same with a huge investment is only a public hype and shows the bias of Government towards Rich and affluent. The existing system has to be revamped to provide better services to all common public. Similarly Air Travel has to be made cheaper to cater to the needs of all section of the society. more
