Rail booking Waiting & Tatkal a big question

Dear all

As per present practice, when we book a ticket (Reservation), upon
non-availability of seat/berth, the booking is kept on Waiting List which
converts as RAC later on.

If we have to travel and want reservation, we are bound to go for the
TATKAL reservation as a second alternative.

In both the cases, the consumer/customer (passenger) has to pay the
reservation charges. Can not the Waiting list/RAC be automatically converted
to TATKAL without going for re-booking and repaying the higher (double)
reservation charges ?

In my opinion, there should be a system (computer programming) which can
automatically convert the waiting list into Tatkal booking without undergoing
any booking/reservation procedure. However, there should be a provision which
can ask the the customer about the preference/consent of conversion of waiting
into TATKAL at the time of booking itself.

This will avoid the double procedural formalities and also save the double
charges by the customer/passenger and will avoid mal practice going other way
round.

Local circles friends should consider this and if finds it appropriate, should support
my thought and save customers from TATKAL's jugglery.

Thanks

While booking the Railway ticket, when you enter the card deatils then they take the money out. But most of time when we give choice of birth like "Lower" . At that time it will not check for availability, but only after taking out money, it will say Your choice of birth in not available. At that stage we have no option except to say. Can the IRCTC not check the availability before taking out money? This way IRCTC will save its efferts and passenger need not wait long to get refund, if he/she has said no. more
Firstly, I would like to high light a few issues here which are most practical; 1. All railway booking should be done online in a transparent manner with displays indicating the exact number of seats available, 2. Tatkal bookings should be permitted atleast 3 days in advance (72 hours prior to train departure), 3. Upgrading of tickets based on availablity should be part of the computer programme, 4. If the number of W/L and RAC cross a specific number then railways should immediately arrange for an additional train. After all the railways is minting money but is shameless to the extent to still advertise to the people of INDIA that its making major losses. IF THIS IS TRULY THE CASE THEN SELL THE RAILWAYS AND SEE THE BUYERS GET RICHER BUY THE DAY.. more
W/L to Tatkal conversion may deprive some people who really needs on urgent basis. W/L to Tatkal conversation can be done if there is any vacant berth at the last moment. The option for alternate train is good idea. more
Yes, the railways must accept existing pnr numbers to convert to Tatkal if the passenger is not ready to accept the WL/RAC status. What does the railways do to convert ordinary ticket to VIP quota ticket. THOSE PEOPLE do not buy a new ticket like Tatkal. God ( Indian RailwaYS) PLEASE HELP.... more
I think waiting list not over than 200 per train more
Tatkal is a facility for instant require, but the facility of waiting list convert to Tatkal is a nice idea with subject to passengers choice more
