RAIL CROWD DURING FESTIVAL DAYS

Ideas given by Mr. Jaykumar Daniel are laudable. i am of the view that large number of problems faced by passengers can be alleviated firstly if only Railways starts treating the passengers as customers. Secondly, just as by Air Lines, allow booking/boarding as per number of seats/berths. No standing travel be permitted and no general compartment system where people board without reservation. If it is felt that we have a large population that wants to travel, plan ahead as suggested by Mr. Daniel or else choose another mode of travel till such time Railways can increase number of trains. Can't say control population as no one wants to do so, including concerned ministry who had informed me in writing that the country already has a population policy and that I am ill informed seeking creation/review of population policy more

In every long distance train reservation ticket holder passengers suffer from entry and forcible occupation of reserved seats at various locations and stages of long journey, by "Daily Passengers" commuting between their homes and Offices. Railway officials know about it but do not take any action as they are afraid of the group/crowd action. Railway official MUST enforce ALL RULES for convenience of authorised Passengers and give all necessary protection/ support to the staff to take appropriate action. Secondly, It is necessary to look for convenience of rural population also as they generally travel short distances only and there should be enough no. of suitable trains so that long distance passengers are not put to avoidable inconvenience. Further for people who have sudden/emergency requirement to travel and people who do not have resources to pay for reserved ticket travel, there should be reasonable no. of carriages available in every train. In my opinion this is being done by the authorities. RYK. more
Bus travel should be encouraged. For this fares have to be comparable.Presently bus fares are very high in comparison to train fare. more
It is impracticable to desire to do away with general compartments in Indian railways in a country like ours. Moreover, what about the rural populace and those travel for short distance. Do you expect that the people who cover only a few stations should also board a train with reserved tickets? If it is so, this will certainly deprive the passengers of long distance from getting a confirmed ticket. Further, the standing passengers are the real source for any kind of transport for profit generation at existing fare structures and inability to meet the demands leaves with no choice but to allow the passengers to travel even without a seat. With the existing available infrastructure, it may not be possible for railways to introduce new trains as per our demands and the existing condition is likely to continue for many more years to come. more
Before all this, the IRCTC site should give a choice of seats which we can reserve. Without this facility we are not customers. more
Planning ahead is not done even by Literate folks so how can we expect villagers and rural poor travellers to make travel plans in advance. I have seen the line up of Unreserved Travellers waiting to board Delhi bound trains from Ahmedabad Junction. RPF has to manage the Queue. First the Unreserved compartment behind the Engine is Opened and once full, the crowd is then sent to the rear where there is one more Unreserved bogie. Once seats are occupied, RPF then stand aside and people then rush in like cattle and the coach is filled to bursting point. Apart from this, at all halting stations and junctions the crowd continues to swell inside with new ones displacing the ones de-boarding. There is one crowd of Up-Down travellers or MST Holders who will board the Reserved Compartments during morning hours to reach their work destinations and they are a group/crowd with whom neither TTE nor RPF would wish to wrangle or act against them. more
