Railways insist we pre-purchase meals! SHAMEFUL !!

It is really shameful that the railways still insists that people travelling by Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains are forced to pre-purchase their meals at the time of booking the tickets.

Why ? WHY ?? WHY ???
WHY DO YOU NOT GIVE US THE CHOICE ???

Passengers who are satisfied by your pantry service will pay you as before ... what will you lose?

After makig the payment in advance, we (the passengers) are totally at the mercy of the caterers of the pantry car because we have already paid up...!!!

We are forced to accept whatever sub-standard and insufficient quanty and quality of meals the pantry people give us as if we were beggars.

In the Rajdhani trais to Assam i.e. train numbers 12423, 12424, 12435, 12435, 12235, 12236, Every time, without exception, whenever I travel in these trains, I witness passengers arguing with the pantry staff regarding the meals provided.

When asked for the complaint book, it is almost never given. It is another matter that the passenger who has asked for the complain-book, is then given special treatment so that he/ she will not write a complain.

Please give us the choice of meals of our prefered meals.

At Madras Central, the suburban train platform is different. It is correct that the TTE asked for paying penalty. In case the suburban train platform happened to be in the same campus you have a point. I seek some experienced retired Rly officials more
I think the choice to pre-purchase meal is not wrong for the following reasons, 1) it would give the caterers an advance idea of the things they have to prepare and the things they need to carry. 2) this will help them prepare it more efficiently and better. 3) railways can this demand an improvement in service. 4) it may even reduce cost due to reduction in wastage. As far as complaints due dis-satisfaction with service is concerned following things can be implemented 1) since the cleaning of the coaches has become privatized, the cleaners after doing their job need signatures and comment from 2-3 passengers to log in their log books that gets submitted to the railway officials for evaluation. 2) in the same way the caterers can be made to distribute a form to all the passengers who have purchased meals to fill their grieviences. This would provide the passengers from asking for complaint book and the caterers services will get a regular evaluation. 3) to prevent theft, the form can have a special code that is printed on the ticket and hence known only to the passenger. This code can be filled in the form 4) the form can also have the passenger phone numbers. Let's get out of the mentality to strike down everything and develop a mentality of thinking seriously about any proposal it's pros and cons and if it has merit but need correction then suggest that rather than striking it down. more
Total confidence lost. They are exploring ways and means to tax and nothing else. Really ashamed of their deeds. more
