Railways is playing games with people of India

When senior citizens are booking tickets it is found that railways is assigning them upper berths.

Later they must cancel and book the same train again or alternate train.

Every time they lose money by paying cancellation fee.

Why is this. Why cant i select my seat like an airplane. Is it because you want to assign seats later to babus and mantris and their chamchas.

So you cater to those people and you penalise the senior citizen on pension and extract cancellation fee from him/her.

By this railways meets business plan and employees get bonus. On account of senior citizen of India. Shame Shame! more

Yes Sailesh no doubt it is correct. If you book berths for super senior citizen the system is allotting upper berth. How they are expecting the super senior citizen to climb on to upper berth. At the same time if you book your ticket in 1 AC they are not allotting berth number upto the last movement of your journey day even you have paid the chares along with convenience fee. Now a days railways became an useless department. more
It is problem with passengers that they do not go through the Form carefully. At the gateway of booking when a passenger fills up his/her boarding station, destination, date etc. at the end there option for General, Senior Citizen Lower Berth etc. Many passenger overlook it. While filling up booking form again there is option for preferred berth. There are five preferences namely Lower, Middle, Upper, Side Lower and Side upper. Again here many passenger overlook this option and the last one being "book only if lower berth is available", and this option is also overlooked . more
I have the impression that the system is not designed to assign the lower berths outside the lower berth quota to senior citizens, women (middle aged or pregnant or with small children) or physically incapacitated. Recently I booked tickets by Duranto Express between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad (both sides) in AC-3T when 332 or there about berths are available. I felt we, 72 years man & 67 years woman will certainly get lower berths when so many are available. Unfortunately we got middle and side upper. I retried with one lower & one upper in AC-2T (as I can possibly manage to climb upper inside , if my wife gets lower) when reasonable number of berths are available. Unfortunately, we got again 2 side upper. I lost around Rs.1000/-. I feel that unless you book when lower berth quota is available, the chances of getting lower berth is remote if you are booking online. Perhaps, it’s easier to get them at the counter as they can select. I don’t understand why the same can’t be extended to online after blocking some for counter customers (possibly no access to Internet). more
Please note that while booking a ticket under senior citizen quota, on ticket booking format online there is selection of berth plus down below is another option " Book only if lower berth is available". Pls check and use these options so that you are not forced to cancel your ticket. Only in case of WL ticket there is least chance of getting a lower berth. more
It has become a fashion now a days to blame the public sectors for each and everything in the event of not getting a favour as expected or demanded. The public sectors are often accused of favouring the VIPs, the people living in higher classes of societies, the rich, those enjoying administrative powers, their own employees and so on and so forth, most of which, in my opinion, are far from the truth, unfounded and not more than blame game! Taking the instant case into account, in the event of non-availability of lower berth and a declaration that ticket (s) should be issued only if lower berth is available, which is available in the form itself, what the tickets issuing authority should do? How could one ensure that there was foul play there against? more
