Railways modernization - urgent need

Currently , it is very difficult to reach the platforms for catching the trains since we have to take lot of steps up and down and in most places it will be sinking near the railway lines. This is even more challenging for aged people and they can't take wheel chair inside the platforms. Once I had to take a train in Siliguri with my mother. We reached a designated platform with great difficulty as my mother was old. Last moment, there was an announcement that the train arrival platform has changed. It was a hurricane task for my mother to claim huge number of steps from going from one platform to another.

I would urge the railways to urgently look at modernizing the railway stations by providing escalators and lifts at all platforms and at all stations. This will make railways more user friendly. more

In addition to these facilities the steps be converted to ramps which will not only help in climbing up or moving down but also for carrying luggage. more
You are really correct. Passenger amneties like escalator and lifts shall be provided and maintained in all stations. A lot of initiatives are being taken in this line but lot more to be done. Local administration of Railways as well as MLA or MP should also take initiative in this regard more
Railway may need modernisation but the first priority of the board is to collect haffttas even from drug peddlers, bus lobby, reservation touts, pick pocketers, RPF. Board do not have time for modernisation. For Railway Modernisation means straightway collecting 10% of contract value at the time of issuing work order and then forget all. The root cause of all problems in Railway is ministry and board themselves. Here cityzens are more bothered about Railway rather than minister or Board and that is a tragedy for India. So continue to watch these accidents at regular intervals. more
I do agree the facilities are equally meant for poor people also, no economic descrimination is intended. In fact when such facility is provided arrangement shall be made to help people use it as some are not familiar with these. Today most of the facilities such AC III tier are quite within reach of majority. One shall allow upgrading of facilities in parallel on all fronts, at stations, rolling stock, toilets, clealiness, speed trains etc. Unfortunately very few accept facilities do come when user is ready to pay for it and not without cost. The up keep of facilities by users is equally important and this part is missing our part and lack of maintained arrangement on part of railways. This need to improve. more
Till modernisation at least Railway may display the coach position on those station where electronic display is not working, & this display may be arranged half an hour before the schedule arrival time,it is unfortunete that u will get information on Google but not get information at plateform, all of us know most of the senior citizens are not users of net/or experts in surfing, even most of them may be not so skilled also. Earlier Railway used to display the coach position in chart in few station, but now it is stopped, the reason is not known, because its hardly one line information in chart probably Railway stopped this information to save printing cost to cover the heavy expenditure. more
