Rajdhani and Duranto discontinued
Railways has discontinued Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto Express trains from May 9 till further orders. This is being done due to low occupancy and surge in Covid cases they say.

Low occupancy in through long distance trains acceptable, because most of the general public from lower middle class viz: daily wagers, sales personnel, field staff, delivery boys and other casual works rail travel is affected since lockdown. The need of the hour is to open rail journey for these category of people for them to earn their livelyhood and slowly gradually occupancy level in all long distance train accelerate. The Railway authority to consider this media of economic travel for the public survival . more

As there is low occupancy, the number of trains should be reduced according to the demand. more

traveled New Delhi Kalka and protocol compliance was fair but not universal. Issue is low occupancy and not face mask and sanitizer use. If passengers are not available, there is no sense in wasting money by running empty trains. more

I made two trips from Delhi to Bhopal (Rajdhani & Shan-e-Bhopal). Covid-19 protocols were not being followed by passengers. more

If no demand, reduce the supply. Proper decision. When demand rises in the future, I am sure IR will reinstate the capacity. Cannot offer any comment on protocol compliance since did not travel for the last one plus years. more
