A Member of Parliament has 2 responsibilities i.e. 1) To drive good governance and development in their constituency and 2) Attend parliament for about 120 days in a year, debate issues, vote on bills and as requested participate in different committees on issues.
Last week in the committee meeting on addressing pollution only 4 of the 29 MPs showed up and yesterday on the pollution discussion in Lok Sabha of the 550 MPs only 130 showed up. Perhaps, these elected Members of Parliament were busy in affairs of their constituency. We would like to invite you to Rate your Member of Parliament for the work done in your constituency as the Govt completes 6 months this week. Below is the link you may use.
The presence in parliament and participation in debates/raising questions etc are on record and the government (Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs) can maintain these records and make them accessible through the government website. Also the voting record of each member should be available in public domain. A relevant measure can be the level of interaction they have with their constituents and how effective their constituency offices function while they are attending sessions. The development of constituency and governance are mostly affairs of the state government and MPs have no contribution here (except for bringing central projects to their constituency). more
Election Commission has to review the eligibility condition for a candidate to contest election for Corporator/MLA/MP.It should be such atleast that for a Senior Officer/Executive level of Govt Company. more
Rating to 80% of MPs and 100% of TN State MLAs by majority of citizens will be 5 to10% only. They do not come to their constituencies and do not interact with the people who sent them to the Parliament and Assemblies. They consider themselves as Rajas and look down up on the citizens. more
Now when the Parliament is in session, the current news says that a maximum number of MLAS and MPS are missing from the session which has annoyed the Prime Minister The corrective method will be to penalize the members for their absence and deduct their salaries which are paid from the taxpayers money These MLAs are public servants who seek votes on the basis of their promises which they very quickly forget therefore a code of conduct must be fixed for them Dr S.Sanyal more
Code of conduct, candidature for Contestants and performance of Elected Members is a must the Constitution to fulfill Preamble Guarantees of the Construction .
Our Newly Elected MP is young, energetic and full of ideas. But what I feel he is not getting support of local authorities. Our local issues are still the same. For example Traffic Jam, Erratic Road Repairs, Erratic Autos, Erratic Flyovers Plans ( Only On Paper), Erratic Traffic. May be on govt records one may find rosy pictures, but the fact will remain fact.. more
