Reducing sugar in traditional and packaged sweets

Hello Circle Friends

The circle survey on lower sugar products being made by brands is a great attempt by LC Manager

https://www.localcircles.com/a/press/page/sweets-consumption-survey

The issue here is sugar is lowest cost and acts as preservation agent and hence brands want to keep sugar high in most products or at best have a product with artificial sweeteners (cancerous)

We will therefore have to keep raising this issue to get past strong industry lobbies. Everything from chocolate to cookies to icecreams atleast 25% sugar can be cut in a heart beat.

I invite everyone’s comments more

Dear Mr Gupta Who listens to voters/ citizens in India ? At 43 a kg sugar is grossly overpriced and we avoid it to the fullest extend? RG Noida  On Wednesday 18 September, 2024 at 02:02:58 pm IST, Vikram Gupta wrote: more
FSSAI should stipulate the permissible limit of sugar and salt for every item & show them against the ingredients mentioned on the packages/bottles and act against the concerned manufacturers accordingly. There may be no stipulations, and several packaged foods have excessive salt/sugar. Without such stipulations, fixing up of accountability may not be possible. more
In a similar issue some times ago, many LC members suggested to declare the contents with percentage quantity. Uptill now, no such action seen in oackaged and/or on loose sales. As our testing and food authorities are corrupt, no action seen till now. Best remedy is to avod buying. more
Since this concerns general health , it is imperative that strict monitoring mechanism is placed and enforced. All agencies should coordinate and do the needful. more
in india based on the region so many varieties are there and fssai can make a recommendation stating on sweets how much sugar can be added and instead of sugar one can add other like jaggery etc some norms need to start with to make a beginning but still preserving the more
