removal of sr citizen discounts in Ist AC

There are News Paper reports of likely removal of Sr Citizen discounts for Ist AC.
But prior to doing that, please analyse, how much is railways loosing on Free Passes to Railway staff. Any thing free is always misused.
7th Pay commission is to be implemented. This is the right time to eliminate Free Passes to Railways staff. Else the value of ticket provided free be treated as Perk and Taxed along with salary. more

Denying sr.ctzn. concession on 1 AC is only a gimmick without any real benefit. Firstly 1AC is not fully occupied,secondly those who travel are mostly on-duty and retired rly. officials on free passes,apart from officials and politicians on govt. a/c. Number of public senior citizens paying fare will be infinitesimally small.So, this move will not bring any significant increase in revenue except annoying a section of the community.Railways in their better sense should drop this proposal. more

Senior citizen concession must be continued as they do not trevel most frequent. Data may be analysed. Free passes and its uses must be verified for previlaged class. more

Old people have fixed pensions and if the little concession on travel by trains is taken away they may not be able to travel at all. Does the railways need to deprive senior citizens of the privilege of travelling by train? Do not take away the senior citizens fare concessions. There should NOT be free passes to railway staff. Let them pay 50 percent of full fare for every private journey that a staff member makes. more
