Earlier this year, you had participated in the LocalCircles campaign on Service Charge. Polls and report available at the link below where Citizens demanded that Service Charge be given as an option to the consumer in the bill.

Kaushikk D. Vyas Ji, It is true that many would be in favor of paying the service charges to the restaurant and hotels. Some points I would like to add: As per Sales Tax rules, the 40% of the food bill is towards service and hence service tax is charged on 40% OF THE FOOD BILL. Hence any additional service charge by way of tip is amounting to doubling. The problem come up when the diners do not wish to pay service charges for number of reasons, the prominent being the poor service and the charging of fixed percentage decided by the service provider. Let those people pay who wish to pay but the people who do not wish to pay should not be compelled. It seems all our HON. MEMBERS have lot of symphathy for the restarurnets owners and their srtaff, and it is clearly understood taht all have accepted to pay it in one or the other form . soem one said restaurnetnts should give details of their food ost and so on so forth, Do all our members ever know or assked about the DYNAMIC PRICE MECHANISM OF PETROL, DIESEL , GAS PRICES, BY WHICH FORMULA SUCH CHARGES ARE CHANGING EVERY NOW AND THEN? WHAT I THAT FORMULA BY WHICH THE AIR LINES CHAE AIR FARE ? When the govt taht we all elect, if they don't show any transparency in such price mechanism how can w expect any restaurent owner to be so transprent about their food chrges taht they serve? More importantly, insist the restaurants and hotels to accept digital money, before giving us the choice to pay tips. Does the government propose a euphemism for “tips” through this guideline? In future, does the government plan to make “tips” mandatory to offload the salary from the responsibility of the hotel management? more
