Same car, but cheaper when "Made in USA" causing Toyota Kirloskar plant temporarily getting shut

Why Toyota Camry SE fully automatic petrol sedan, retailed at about 64% the cost of the same when 'made in India' - a Rs.29 lakhs car there, here costing Rs.45 lakhs?Ok, you get additionally the hybrid version thereof in India, 28% GST + 15% cess, and a right hand drive car! Additionally car loans available there at 6% interest! How the automobile industry manages this? Governmental levies vis-a-vis company's profitability, what drives what? Toyota's diesel vehicles, Innova, however continued, howsoever polluting! Different matter that the SUV now has gone hybrid. Same Japanese enterprise, takeaways different. Any lessons? more

Present Govt. is only eyeing on revenue generation without bothering customer's benefit & advantage. Why someone will buy a car with an extra cost? In a competitive market environment, price & quality including features are very important and everyone keeps watchful eye on an individual's interest first. Such attitude is slowly turning India to a trading centre now instead of manufacturing hub. more
True, taxes in India really add up. As an afterthought, tactically, then a thoughtless policy introduced of scrapping cars, truly behaving like an over-rich nation. Any wonder that more people buying heavier SUVs than the comparatively fuel-efficient sedans and hatchbacks combined, the only trend US has in common with India. Taxpaying buyer's decisions follow government's fiscal incentives. Only saving grace is India's shifting directly after Bharat IV to the cleanest VI engines skipping the intervening V, hastening the steps towards controlling air pollution. more
Cars in India are more expensive than in most other countries … and then the government goes and makes a stupid thoughtless baseless decision in the NCR of scrapping cars and imposing bans without studying the real truth and actual reasons behind the pollution problem … behaving like an over rich nation and causing immense financial losses all around to the poor citizens … and not even refunding the citizens of the taxes they had paid at the time of purchase … ridiculously … the only victim of this whole exercise has been the poor hardworking taxpayer more
The taxes in India add to the cost. Also Toyota never pushed their luxury lines like Lexus in India. Lexus is very popular in the US and is moderately priced. more
