I have travelled in side bearths (both upper and lower ) in both second AC and third AC compartments.I dont find any difference in comforts offered in both these cases.Same length , width and position of these bearths in both these classes whereas in case of inner bearths definitely the comfort levels are different in second and third AC compartments and you are paying higher in second AC which is justified. In case of side bearths why a passenger in second AC has to pay more than his counter part travelling in third AC compartment. Will Railways look into this aspect and reduce the tarrif for side bearths in second AC at par with third AC ticket or improve the comfort level at par with the inner bearths. more
while booking keep option or Ask booking clark to avoid these berths , For RAC / WL tickets Not To confirm seat If side berth is available. the People who want to travel with less comfort will travel . No need to reduce the fare. more
Side berths in any class of a train are not convenient and comfortable. Reduced fare in no way would increase their comfort level. It would be better to abolish these berths with appropriate increase in the fare so that the railways do not incur any financial loss. But this will create another problem for the passengers due to reduction in number of berths by around 25% of the present capacity. Are Indian railways capable to makeup this shortfall by introducing new trains? Till then we may require to continue with the present situation as railways will never agree to reduce the fare, as sought for. more
Mr. Prabhakaran, even we cannot feed separately to our limbs/fingers though different in length and capacity, I feel we can contribute back a bit to this beautiful nation. Rather, we may say as a whole there is no much difference in AC3T and AC2T apart from few inches of width and clearance. Railways have lots of opportunity to justify the higher classes - let them have a look! more
