Smart City - Big Questions
The Smart City initiative announced by the PM in June is not making much sense yet.
Hoping that 100 Civic Bodies will form SPVs lead by their Municipal Corporation and Central Govt is not a feasible idea. And the ideas that each of these cities will have a CEO of this SPV who will make this smart city happen is also flawed. Is the Govt going to pay private sector compensation to these CEOs.
The role that citizens will play is still not identified and if they keep going at this speed, at 5 year mark, they would still be forming the SPVs with zero results on ground.
How can we ensure that Smart Cities becomes successful and not another channel for local bodies to give contracts locally with collusion and make a ton of money.

Green tech based high rises will make good sense as land is becoming costly and we need good land for agriculture also to feed ourselves. better planned high rises can accommodate more people and infrastructure can be provided easily... more
