Solar energy production and net metering.

The central government and Supreme Court is working proactively to reduce environmental pollution. So also various state governments.
But all of a sudden, some state governments like Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and UP have introduced legislation to restrict or eliminate solar net metering, and have implemented gross metering, where the consumer pays about thrice the amount for electricity he buys from the grid, compared to what he sells to the discom.
This practice has been introduced solely to gain additional revenue by discouraging clean solar generation. On the other hand, vehicles older than 15 years has to pay a “green tax” for causing pollution, whereas the government promotes energy derived from fossil fuels over clean sustainable energy from the sun. So much so, some states are mulling imposing a fee or tax on power produced from the sun for private use.
People who have invested in solar power are now at a disadvantage. It is high time some coherent and viable long term decisions are implemented across the country. more
