Railways is planning for Semi high speed trains on tracks that hardly withstand 100km/h speed to make travel faster. What I think running trains on time will make it much faster even with 100 km speed as passengers are quite satisfied with Rajdhanis and Shatabdis running on time. If trains run on time we will travel faster than with semi high speed not running on time . Also we don't have tracks right now to run those trains and it will be a major safety compromise . So leave high speed for bullet trains with dedicated high speed corridors. more
It is better to improve existing railway infrastructure. Security alone needs lots of funds. Why not disallow unnecessary entry into our Railway stations just like airports. It will save the misuse of railway infrastructure, and is a preventive security against illegal activities (eg. terrorists). So instead of bullet trains let the SECURITY be of the BEST standards in Railways. Next is SANITATION. Instead of spending money on new tracks, acquiring lands, etc, we can subsidise Air travel. Railways should first make their existing assets productive and safe. REMEMBER PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. If existing assets of Railways are put to innovative use, its INCOME WILL INCREASE to provide funds for above MINIMUM BENCHMARKS in SECURITY, SANITATION, etc more
Laying of tracks in bullet train tracks will cost Rs.200 crores per kilometer. For a 500 kilometer journey it comes to Rs.1,00,000 crores. Double tracks may need new land about 15,000 acres land for a 500 kilometer track. Cost of trains extra. For an investment of this sort what will be the fare of a 500 kilometer journey?. Can the common man afford it?. Those who can afford can as well purchase an air ticket. If the Government starts it with subsidy on train fare, it will be forced to request the public to waive the subsidy as in the case of LPG. more
