Sports Infrastructure - Railways must rethink

On one hand we have this great report that India is now welcoming non cricket sports and 71% parents are supportive if children pursue sports careers.

On other hand per attached we have railways giving up sports stadiums. Can some one from raiways confirm if they are being given for sports activities to private agencies or to build hotel or for what??

Rail Minister should advise if possible more

Indian railways are encouraging different sports by fixing some quota in their every vacancy for sports persons for decades. It helps encouraging sports in the country and many sport persons our national teams are from Indian Railways, who got the scope to improve their performance to find a berth in national teams, as the railways extended all required infrastructure and assistance to these sports persons to put their time and stamina in continued improvement of their skills in their respective fields rather than much involvement in the railways daily routine works. This helps in bringing laurels for the railways and the nation ase a whole, as many of these sports persons get berth in national teams and perform well. The Indian Railways must continue this tradition instead of messing up of sports with its timeliness and other routine issues. more
The social-media has already crippled the mind-set of budding youth for their pursuit of active and outdoor sports in our country. Now comparatively less well off and very well off are interested in sports, and they have proved their capability to earn honors. The infrastructure for the same lies under-utilized. Big corporations have also been doing good work by sponsoring promising players besides the government and PSUs by reserving certain quota for outstanding sportsmen/sports-women. Parents must act pro-actively to de-wean their wards from the addiction of SM if they wish them to earn laurels for their families in sports arena. more
Railways should do the work they are entrusted to do. Carry passengers to their destinations safe and on time. They should carry the cargo from place to place safely with out damage or loss. If the report can be believed the Government spent Rs.7 crore to make one athlete to get a gold medal. When there are more important and critical issues, the government should concentrate in solving them. Sports is a personal choice. As a tax paying citizen I want trains to run on time and safe, get quality electricity 24X7, get enough drinking water, and a safe and effective public transport system. If the railways utilise their own property who are we to tell them what to do? All these gifts worth crores given away to the Olympic heroes are taxpayers money. Remember that. more
Different states should encourage different sports persons and encourage them by giving honorary service and remuneration. Such act will produce excellent sports persons, who can win prizes in the coming days. more
Only if there is no corruption and sincerity of purpose, our sports infrastructures will serve the purpose. more
