Standards for rides and swings

Yesterday an 11 year old died in Chandigarh because a toy train at a mall toppled. See attached.

We see such rides in so many malls, melas etc. there is no certification or approvals. Some of these are now inside malls also under different brands like fun city and what not.

There is not standards and checks balances. All is bhagwan bharose.

Can LC manager escalate this to the right people so mandatory safety standards are set for such swings and rides and broadly recreational parks/centers? more

There is no value for Human Life. The way we produce, we have no right for our safety. Churchill said, "WE PRODUCE LIKE RABBITS HENCE NO FOOD SHOULD BE PROVIDED". more

In India, safety has no place in most items of public use that includes trains, buses, bridges, roads etc. All these ventures are low/cheap investments (and probably a lot of sleaze and kickback involved) with a view to maximising profits. Why equipment for children? Most things in our daily lives tend to be tardy, rickety, inefficient, clanky, noisy and usually a rip-off based on photos of Disneyland or some such place. The priority given to safety standards is abysmally low in our country as life is unfortunately very cheap. Yes, safety standards will come at a higher investment and maintenance cost. If one looks at roads with potholes pepperred with speed breakers, one may think nothing of it. However, speedbreakers can cause a lot of bodily harm to humans as well as the vehicle. Most developed countries dont have speedbreakers!! The worst case scenario is that despite several mishaps time and again, we dont learn and improve. Those who have been to global amusement parks can realise in no time the sheer difference in standards in our country. Even if we have standards, they will not be implemented or maintained as there is virtually no enforcement and punitive action. So, those with money and muscle power will enjoy their hey-day at teh expense of innocent common people. more
yes looks like there is no safety in place. more
It was really heartening to know that an Indian always rushes to help another when in distress. We did see several running to help. But we lost a life. The allegation starts from the defect in the manufacture of the equipment: Fist the base is too small for the height of the boggies / compartments, and as the angle of turn is too acute for the speed the boggie toppled. Next the Mall for not ascertaining the safety of the whole toy. One cant blame the visitors / customers who come with total belief and faith in the Mall Management. We have to be care full about driving the Go cart too particularly wearing loose garments. In Chennai a ladies dupatta got entangled in the speeding carts wheel and she was straggled. The Toy manufacturer , should be divested of Licence, Then the Mall to pay compensation or complete hospital charges of the injured, and the Driver for his negligence . Not knowing the acute angle of turn. more
