Tatkal reservation scheme is black marketing

Dharm Verma posted a message in "Make Railways Better".
Subject: Tatkal reservation scheme is black marketing of.
Black marketing of travel tickets by Indian Railways in the guise of Tatkal/Premium Tatkal scheme!
Indian Railways opens sale of reserved tickets 120 days earlier than the actual date of departure of the train but only a certain percentage of available accommodation is released for current reservation (around 50%) and the remaining 50% is held back for sale for Tatkal/VIP quota and is opened 24 hours earlier to the departure date at higher charges with denial of concessions to differently abled, Sr. Citizens and other eligible categories. Thus Railways have legalised BLACK MARKETING of travel tickets by hoarding 50% tickets and selling more...

Dharm Varma is right and I don't understand why his write-up is deleted. If this forum is really like to improve the system especially in Railways, it should be open enough to express the views of the members. The concern authorities should explain the reason behind a decision taken. If the demand for the tickets are more railways should plan and increase the trains or bogies. They should not discourage the commuters by increasing the price. Even after 70 years of independence, it shows that our infrastructure is not yet up to the level in proportion to our population. Now we see some changes happening. But we should express our requirements as consumer, so that the concern departments authorities start acting on it. more

It is highly regrettable that some people use certain terms (hopefully only in English, which is a foreign tongue to them) without understanding their meaning. This perhaps unintended expressions become objectionable in public discussions though they may be ignored in closed private circles. This can be and should be good enough reason for removing such postings. While I have not read Mr. Dharm Verma's (seek your pardon, if I have misspelt) posting, I would like the honourable gentleman who initiated this discussion to enlighten us how differential fares for different set of tickets disbursed in different circumstances is black marketing. What is black about this marketing. Some or most or all of us may differ on (a) Period of advance for obtaining a reserved ticket (b) quota's allocated in reserved berths/ seats under various heads (c) Period of advance for Tatkal quota and (d) Pricing of Tatkal tickets. We are at liberty to express our opinion rationally but these are mostly subjective matters and not objective matters. In all objective matters, the decision rests with the person who has been made responsible for it and his/ her decisions can't be called names. On his own admission, the railways have not been able to create the infrastructure in proportion to the population. Creation of infrastructure is capital intensive and the capital infused should not only give a return more than the inflation index but also leave some reserve for maintaining the facility created but also for further development keeping in mind the likely increase in population. In order to achieve this, Organisation needs to recover more from travelling public. Even with all variable fares and flexi-fares, passenger trains are unviable at the present level of fares. It is quite possible that substantial funds might be leaking away but unless we have detailed insight, we can't comment on it. more
It is Indian legalised, consitiutional secular Corruption so if you raise questions, they will just arrest you. It is their constitutional fundamental right to extract blood of poor Indians. more
All are game of money, Indian citizens never be free from corruption. more
I also agree & support views of Mr Dharm Verma & Mr Chelvakumar Pillai. What's the logic behind overcharging in the name of Tatkal? whose brainchild is this? Tatkal has increased the Black Marketing by agents. When Railways is improving on so many things it should not indulge in such practices. more
