Tax paying Citizens paying for IT glitches

The finmin has extended the tax filing to Dec 31st. But, does this help the tax payers. NO . Instead, it penalises them. The IT portal glitches are far from being resolved. Until the issues are resolved, most will not be able to file their returns. There are tax payers who have paid the tax and there are those who are ready to pay the tax, and file the returns. But, until the returns are filed, which is dependent on the IT portal, the tax payer has to pay 1% interest. Instead of penalizing the company that is developing the portal, the govt is penalizing genuine tax paying citizens. What logic is this? more

Where does it say about 1% interest. They cannot if the date has been extended. Circular from IT Dept does not mention. more
Wrong to have prima facie made a replacement of a perfectly working site, with a new one. No logic, butt only politics seems the reason. Secondly, due process requires that 3 vendors should have been shortlisted for providing solution as is the case when government is customer. Government has the advantage being a monopsony customer, and easily the best vendor, even if Infosys, would have competed doing a more thorough job. Of course this process could take more time. more
Experience with GST portal that was started as Greenfield project should have had a sobering effect on the government when portal is still being iteratively made efficient ought to have shown the government when trying tinkering with a brownfield one that has so well matured in capability over a decade. Government's only trying reinventing what was made by her predecessor and already worked perfectly, as the best in the world! What could be government's motivation to supercede predecessor's legacy digital system with a new one! Government must answer. more
But this is really sad that Infosys is not able to resolve this problem for such a long time. Govt can take help of other IT Giants in India or Abroad. more
Sri. Raghavan T., it does not matter if Infosys is tax-expert or not. If Infosys had the business requirements from Tax experts, it is upon Infosys to arrange all types of tests (unit test, system test, User tests, etc.) before releasing. But, of course, if the business requirements are anemic, or non-existent, then it is upon the Tax Business group. It could have been that IT Dept. twisted Infosys' arm to get it implemented without proper testing. Even then, it is upon Infosys to have resisted and not deployed flawed software. At that point, it is political and not logical. more
