Tomato prices have reduced slightly

Great report LC manager to bust Government and Media’s claims that make one believe that tomatoes can be bought for 70-80/kg.

That is not the reality but most of our media blindly publishes whatever Government pumps out.

And why isnt the Govt scaling this subsidised tomato program to 300-400 districts rather than just have it In Delhi UP Rajasthan more

This is a temporary demand vs supply issue. Prices should start reaching more balanced levels in around 4-6 weeks. Already, prices have started cooling off a bit as demand has reduced. The big middle-man as usual is making tonnes of money since the crisis started. Most farmers are probably seeing no change in their fortunes. India needs serious introspection into improving storage facilities, better logistics, opening of newer wholesale markets and this is true of all vegetables/pulses/other agricultural produce. Government trying to subsidise (directly or indirectly) is a very short-sighted decision. These situations require long-term perspective planning balancing the needs of farmers and end consumers. Tomatoes selling at Rs 10 per kg during glut or over Rs 150/kg during shortage, are both undesirable. more
Temporary price rise of essential/semi-essential commodities had occurred many times over past 70 yrs. Onions had motivated many minions to fell some state govt. Ask if you've some reliably sensible/aware septuagenarian around you. I, at 76 of my age, wouldn't indulge in writing something that misguides, excites & frightens my country folks. more
In noida ghaziabad we get 80/kg more
Govt.is not subsidizing but a govt institution is buying directly from farmers from 2 States which are not affected excessive rains and selling directly to consumers @ 2 kg per family. State govts can also do so to Ave cascading effect on tomato price. But who will exert ? more
