Transporters Strike Impact

Circle Friends - Transporters have been on strike for nearly 5 days now. What impact are you seeing in your city and area. Is price of essential items and their availability impacted at all?

Some of their issues seem reasonable abnormal daily diesel price hike, Non-transport Toll Policy, annual hike in third-party insurance premium, GST and E-Way bill issues, corruption, harassment on the roads by RTOs and police etc.

The Government should find a way out but also not encourage this striking business as other association/bodies will then indulge in it. more

The strike has since been called off/withdrawn. In the event of such strike for a longer period, say, more than 3 or 4 days will certainly affect adversely in the movement of essential commodities resulting in short supply and surge in the prices. If the demands of the transporters are reasonable and in consonant with the hike in the prices of fuel, insurance etc., they merit for sympathetic consideration but practically they always make unreasonable demands which should not be accepted under any circumstances. more
It is irony that this country can be held on ransom by transporters, lawyers, government officials (customs officials had gone on strike when corrupt officials were caught). There is no regard for law and order by those who are organised by unions!! As regards the demand of the transporters, I am not sure how much they are impacted, as they charge their customers the hike in price. Yes, definitely the government should look into abolishing of Road tax & fuel charges. Also toll tax should be charged only if the roads are maintained, otherwise they should be abolished. If toll roads are maintained toll is rightly charged, but then other taxes for the same purpose need to be removed. It is high time that governments relied on town planners instead of municipal officials. We need to give proper place to town planners with professional degrees to make all cities a little smarter. Roads in any city can be seen as not having proper slope towards drain for water flow, thus the terrible conditions in rains. This in turn increases the vehicle maintenance costs for all. A big chunk of oil import can be directly related to this, as the average of every vehicle goes down. So, if the roads are taken care of we can save a lot on the oil import bills. more
I propose to remove all toll gates and make the road transportation as smooth as possible. Government should realise the amount through the fuel charges in any way it is increasing in a logic that nobody understands. more
Commercial vehicles plying on highways for business must pay a cost to the toll agencies who operate and maintain such world class roads. Remember the days when the inter-state roads maintained by the governments used to be a nightmare in India! Next, One cannot have the car owner paying the same surcharge on fuel like a commercial transport operator. That will be skewed and unfair. more
Highways are made on build, operate ,transfer policy,if toll is not collected who will pay for cost of construction, today we have world class highway, saves time, fuel, once cost is recovered tollgate will go. more
Yes. I agree completely that truck operators should not try to control the government. But in case of toll govt should consider removing road tax. more
Why? One has to pay for the services rendered. more
