trash talk

Hello there,

I'm just another student in India, but not nearly as ignorant as a majority of the population on this topic. I'm going to be talking about some dirty business, so please bear with me.

Non- segregation is a huge problem in and across India, yet we have still turned a blind eye to it. Now that landfills are overflowing and waste is being dumped on the road we live in, we begin to see the gravity of the situation. I am working on a project known as 'FLL' - First Lego League ; a Lego robotics competition with a project phase, where we must solve a problem pertaining to our surroundings. This year's topic was a 'Trash Trek', where our project had to pertain to trash. Our team of 10 did extensive research, talked to numerous professionals and watched a variety of informational videos. Bit-by-bit we have uncovered the truth behind the vicious cycle of dumping, and made our own solutions to this putrid problem.

There are 3 stages to this problem : the collection, transportation and treatment. The collection begins at home, where we segregate our waste into 2 bins and a bag. Once our waste is segregated, it's picked up by a truck (lorry with no separate segregation units in India where all waste is usually dumped on a roadside) and taken to the wastes' separate segregation facilities.....Or so we think.

Furthermore, our team discovered the ugly truth behind India's waste disposal system. Around 6000 tons of waste are generated daily, 1000 being picked out and recycled by rag- pickers, and the remaining 5000 dumped in a landfill or a roadside. My team and I want to spread awareness regarding this topic. We also want to propose a solution to this problem, which we feel is efficient. Please give us feedback regarding our solutions proposed.

One part of this solution is to segregate not only at home, but on the roadside as well. We want to place color-coded bins with label on the roadside to prevent dumping on the roadside(if we get sufficient resources, as this is just an idea).

The other part of this solution is to segregate the lorries as well by adding 2 dividers to create 3 separate divisions, or to send 1 lorry to collect waste from 1 type of bin. We also intend to spread general awareness about this dire situation. We thank you, dear reader and hope you can give us your feedback and support!

Thanks,

Aditya this is good initiative by you and I totally support it. I would like to draw your attention towards waste management updates: 1) We need a mass movement to let our authorities apply a functional waste segregation plan. The thing is they know it but they are too lazy and inefficient to do it. Developed countries use 10 to 14 different dustbins so they segregate waste at higher level we need to start from basic level first and then take it to that level. But again we need to shout out loud to get our voices heard. 2) Delhi has a Construction and Demolition waste recycling plant operational in Burari such plants are very important since construction waste is also huge, we need more of these kind in Delhi as well as other parts of country so that construction waste is not dumped at some empty plot/land area. 3) Waste segregation issue is discussed in mygov.in forum and many people have supported it, also the "Swachch Bharat" campaign forum in mygov.in has drawn conclusion that it needs to be done. But the problem is our authorities, they are very inefficient. So we as a society now have to act make sure these measures are "Implemented" not merely discussed. more
I AM WITH ADITYA AND WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH HIM more
THERE IS ONE WASTE HEAT POWER GENERATION PLANT HAD BEEN ESTABLISHED. THERE THESE WASTES ARE SEGREGATED AND COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS CAN BE USED FOR POWER GENERATION. BIO DEGRADABLE MATERIAL CAN BE CONVERTED INTO COMPOST.NON DEGRADABLE MATERIAL LIKE PLASTIC CAN BE USED TO PAVE OUR BITUMEN ROADS. THESE PLASTIC MATERIAL OVER THE SOLI WILL NOT ALLOW ERODE BY RAIN/WATER. BITUMAN WILL HAVE GOOD GRIP OVER THE PLASTIC. SLOWLY OUR GOVERNMENT WILL ELIMINATE PLASTIC BAGS. WE ARE VERY PROUD THAT OUR KSRTC IS USING 20% BIO FUEL ALONG DIESEL SAVING NOT ONLY FOREIGN EXCHANGE , WAVING ENVIRONMENT . HOE OUR STATE IS THE ONLY ONE USING BIO FUEL. IN THAILAND ALCOHOL (NON EDIBLE) IS USEDIN THE RATIO UP 85:15. ( ALCOHOL: PETROL). WE ARE USING ONLY 5% . WHY WE CAN NOT ABLE TO INCREASE THE LEVEL OF ALCOHOL IN PETROL MORE ATLEAST UP 30%. THIS WILL SAVE OUR FOREIGN EXCHANGE AS WELL AS DEVELOPE SUGAR INDUSTIRES( AGRICULTURAL SECTOR) ALSO THE AGRI WASTE CAN BE USED AS FUEL IN BOILERS( IN THE FORM OF BRIQUETTE.) IN NORTH KARNATAKA ONE FARMER IS USING BIOFUEL WITH DEISEL IN HIS DIESEL PUMP FOR WATER AS WELL AS GENERATING POWER FOR HIS HOUSE. WHY NOT GOVT INVITE THE FARMER AND SHOW OTHERS AS AN EXAMPLE WHO IS LIVING SELF SUFFICIENTLY . THIS WILL ERADICATE SLOWLY FARMERS SUICIDAL ACTION . more
1. Mr. Aditya has chosen a good subject for his first post which in deed the one and only solution to be at Citizen side and the Municipality from the Government side . Wastes are to be segregated as a must from each House which shall be so differently carried to the Dumping yard and any other dumping places for recycling , processing etc., This saves many from lot of deceases due to Mosquito , flies etc., ; bad breath / air ; dirty and contaminated water stagnations ; saves the waste segregating poor men from deceases doing this work separately for their Food ; AND ALSO SAVES MUNICIPAL MONEY . 2. Trash talk is always dangerous that leads to unknown dangers at certain times . This trash talk in deed also takes away the specious time that none can get back or create . This trash talk also leads to abnormal delays even on important issues of the Community , Society and even the nation . THANKS ADITYA . more
