Unsafe Practices at Stations/Trains

Below are some of the unsafe practices as outlined by you at trains and stations. If you have anything additional, please share specific inputs.

Unsafe practices at stations and in trains

1. No restriction on entry on to platform
2. Wet platforms due to dripping pipes
3. There is a difference in the height between the train & platform edge.
4. Entry of unauthorised people into compartments - unreserved passengers into reserved coaches/vendors/beggars etc.
5. Openable doors even when the train is in motion
6. Fire safety – coaches are made of material which are highly inflammable
7. Some areas still have manual signalling which leads to accidents
8. Often very large sacks, bags, cartons of goods are scattered or piled on the platforms causing safety hazards
9. No limit on the amount of luggage that passengers can carry
10. No restrictions on passengers carrying dangerous materials like kerosene, crackers etc.
11. Passengers travel on footboards and on train roofs which leads to many accidents and injuries
12. At stations people cross tracks to go from one platform to another
13. The vestibule area between coaches have open spaces which poses a danger to passengers
14. Stairs on many platforms are not in a good shape which leads to injuries to many commuters
15. Metal detectors at many stations do not work
16. Contaminated water and foods items sold by vendors. more

Glad to see Railways finally acting on our suggestions. more
If the Railways are really interested in making the travel in Indian Rails pleasant and memorable in long distance trains, they must follow the following suggestions : 1. Each and every reserved bogie (whether Sleeper Class, Chair Car, AC Chair Car, Ex. AC Chair Car, AC 3 Tier-2 Tier & 1st Class) must have an individual TTE cum Attendant to look after the comfort/amenities/safety of the passengers and drive out unwanted people from the bogie. It was a practice long ago followed by Railways but discontinued by the greedy politicians acting as Railway Ministers to show profit and earn vote bank !!! 2. No person should be allowed to board or travel in any kind of reserved coach without a valid reserved ticket. Persons with daily tickets or monthly tickets or with railway pass or with general ticket must not be allowed to board & travel in any reserved coach of any class. If only these suggestions can be adopted, I think the Rail Travel in long distance trains would be most pleasant and safe one and passengers would not mind paying 10-20 or 50 rupees extra for providing these facilities. I hope, all the readers who are active in this circle will admit it. Please admit and support it openly more
Strongly agreed on all above points. I would like to add on to point no. 4 that it is very common to unauthorized entrance in reservation coach specially if journey has duration of 3-4 hrs.persons take general class tickets and entered in reserve coaches. Travelling Ticket Inspector (TTI) has also entertaining this type of practices. it has to be stopped immediately to give comfortable journey to passengers who have booked their tickets. more
I observed this is being encouraged by TTIs. They are even asking the reserved passengers to adjust. more
Yes all the valid points we discussed some time ago and it is nice to discuss further as they are very green in nature and requires continuous follow up and correction/ maintenance. There is very big requirement of staircase side rods , some of the are detached and some of them are continuous. This gives big problem for the people with knee/ joint pain , and hardly they walk without some side support. In my opinion railway can afford arrange Lift facilities to all the platfoms to connect bridge/ alternatively they need to create ramp facility instead of stair case to keep the patients mainly keep/ joint pain persons. The toilet latches get stuck in many compartments. All the latches must be replaced with modern ones. more
