Urgent need to adopt an effective policy for mineral development

This post is inspired by 300+ TsuNamo of Amod Agarwal. After cancellation of the allotments of some coal blocks made by the UPA government till 2014, very few of them could be effectively reallocated by NDA till now. As a result the nation has suffered huge irreparable financial loss to import large amounts of coal. This must be immediately corrected.

If there is any legal obstacle in allocating the blocks to private sector, those should be immediately given to the public sector companies like Coal India Ltd. If that is prevented by any stay order or other such obstacle by the firms whose allotments have been cancelled, that should be overcome by ordnance and acts of the Parliament.

If the acts of the Parliament are prevented by the opposition, it must be widely publicized to expose the corrupt obstructionist politicians.

Similar is the case with many other minerals which are being imported at a huge cost.

Development of alternative energy resources must be speeded up taking bold decisions, including import of solar panels and wind turbines from any country, so that import of fossil fuels is minimized. more

It should not be mineral policy in isolation i.e just exploitation of minerals without any regard for the environment and the people in the vicinity. It should be all inclusive with an eye to future so as to avoid over exploitation of mineral resources. more
