Usage of drugs in Indian colleges

Usage of drugs in colleges in India is rapidly rising. Neighbours son is in SRM university Chennai and yesterday police raided their student housing and seized a lot of ganja and drugs even ganja chocolates.

Something neeeds to be done to block supplies by various law enforcement agencies. Can LC manager take this up as a public cause? Many families will thank you for lifetime.

In a massive surprise check conducted by at least 1,000 police personnel at a gated community, Abode Valley, housing about 500 houses in Potheri near Guduvancherry, with most of the residences occupied by students pursuing studies at SRM College in Kattankolathur, the police team recovered considerable amounts of ganja, ganja oil, and other banned contraband from their residences.

Tambaram police arrested nine college students and a rowdy for smuggling ganja and other banned contraband. Based on a specific tip, a search led by the Tambaram Additional Commissioner of Police, C Mageshwari, went on from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm.

The team included 500 women police personnel from the Armed Reserve wing, who were assigned specific tasks and barged into the houses simultaneously. The teams were asked to check for the potential confinement of drugs and banned tobacco products.

The cops collected the seized contraband, mentioning the house number and the names of the residents staying there. Police recovered 500 grams of ganja, six ganja chocolates, 20 ml of ganja oil, five bhang, one smoking pot, seven hookah machines, and six kgs of shisha (hookah powder). more

Yes drugs use and misuse has been prevalent for many years. When I was in college pursuing my qualification, students used to take/consume all sorts of intoxication. Strict security measures including frisking and surprise raids and police check posts etc. need to be at place more
Politicians and police are the usual beneficiaries of drug trade. The kingpin of drug trade arrested recently in Delhi was a DMK bigwig close to the top hierarchy, now of course disowned. Occasional police raids are just a way to justify their existence and salary paid by taxpayers. more
The bond between parents and the wards is more important, because when the wards start staying in hostels regular monitoring is difficult and good parenting can help. more
in all college hostels across india it is a major issue among the new generation and strict laws need to be made and first time warning by the college to their parents and next time they should be removed from the college otherwise it is going to harm completely the next generation. more
Student of all standard and other young generations in any field should be alerted and guided by police, NCB in uniform and social welfare organizations', to recognize the “criminal minded” student and persons involved in the drug organizations right from attracting new innocent peoples to consume drugs. These law enforcing agencies can secretly cultivate informers from such meetings. more
