Vehicle Scrapping Policy

March 2021: Policy on Vehicles
Honourable Mr. Nitin Gadkari a few opinions on the Vehicle Policy:
*Wrt old vehicles: As a COLLECTIBLE, aesthetics is involved, you will have to consider the Heritage value of old collectible vehicles,
*If POLLUTION is your concern: Certificate of Pollution is to be checked: any (new included…!) vehicle could also be polluting if poorly maintained. Conversely, any old vehicle that is well maintained, will be well within pollution norms…!
*If POLLUTION is your concern: Contemplate (seriously…) to ban the CONVOY of vehicles following and leading the vehicles of VIPs and VVIPs (there could be nothing better than a personal example set by you…!)
*If INDUSTRY is your concern: you are badly skewed and not INCLUSIVE in your approach…there are many users who have single cars (I would say FAMILY CARS…) for several decades, and which do not need replacement,
*If you say that Old-vehicle owners have to pay a hefty price for re-registration, you are irrational: On the other hand the Old-vehicle owners, maintaining their vehicles properly should be encouraged with INCENTIVES…!
*If you think SAFETY is the issue, you do have a point, then, SAFETY MEASURES need to be implemented in OLD vehicles, as possible technically,
*If you think SAFETY is the issue, you still do have a point, RECKLESS DRIVING needs to be checked: A multitude of drivers have NO OR POOR DRIVING ETIQUETTE…!
In conclusion, it may not be wise to “Throw the Baby out with the Bathwater…”!

Very valid opinions. May one add, that 22 years back, before dieselisation of cars by manufacturers, cleverly using heavy subsidy on diesel, a fuel essentially meant for trucks and tractors, as seems the reason, set the race towards seeking profits through higher sales, with environment being ignored. Can we trust private sector companies in being environmentally conscious! Diesel, after all, is highly polluting, as even the pollution under control certificate allows far more laxirt, 24 times than petrol! Earlier, petrol was the only option available, and just as well, being much cleaner burning. Even the multipoint fuel injection engines run only on petrol. Therefore, a calibrated approach needed considering the fuels. more
